## What it does

The skill detects package managers in your project, parses manifests like `package.json` and `requirements.txt`, and matches versions against vulnerability databases: NVD, GitHub Advisory, OSV and others. The report lists CVSS severity, the CVE id, the installed and patched versions, and the update command. A `--details` mode adds the attack vector.

It leans on each ecosystem's own tooling: `npm audit`, `pip-audit`, `safety`, `bundler-audit`, `govulncheck`, `cargo-audit`, `composer audit`, `dotnet list --vulnerable`. So Python scanning needs `pip-audit` or `safety` installed, Go needs `govulncheck`, Rust needs `cargo-audit`. Without them that part of the scan does nothing.

\`--fix` updates packages within semver-compatible ranges; major bumps need `--force` and can break your build. There is also `--health` for outdated and deprecated packages and license conflicts. Suppress specific CVEs in `.dependency-scan-ignore`, set CI thresholds in `.dependency-scan.yaml`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill dependency-scan -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dependency-scan/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dependency-scan/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill dependency-scan -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dependency-scan/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill dependency-scan -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dependency-scan/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jwynia/agent-skills dependency-scan
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dependency-scan/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill dependency-scan -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jwynia/agent-skills --path skills/tech/security/dependency-scan
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dependency-scan/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jwynia/agent-skills --skill dependency-scan -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- find known CVEs in dependencies before a release
- bump vulnerable packages to patched versions
- filter the report down to critical and high severity
- wire dependency checks into GitHub Actions or a pre-commit hook
- spot deprecated and outdated libraries in a project

## Example prompts
- /dependency-scan
- /dependency-scan --pip --severity critical,high
- /dependency-scan --fix --dry-run

# Dependency Scan

Analyze package dependencies for known vulnerabilities.

## Quick Start

```
/dependency-scan                  # Scan all detected package managers
/dependency-scan --npm            # Node.js packages only
/dependency-scan --pip            # Python packages only
/dependency-scan --fix            # Auto-fix where possible
```

## What This Skill Does

1. **Identifies package managers** in your project
2. **Parses dependency manifests** (package.json, requirements.txt, etc.)
3. **Checks vulnerability databases** for known CVEs
4. **Reports severity and remediation** options
5. **Optionally auto-fixes** by updating to patched versions

## Supported Package Managers

| Ecosystem | Files | Tool Used |
|-----------|-------|-----------|
| Node.js | package.json, package-lock.json | npm audit |
| Python | requirements.txt, Pipfile, pyproject.toml | pip-audit, safety |
| Ruby | Gemfile, Gemfile.lock | bundler-audit |
| Java | pom.xml, build.gradle | dependency-check |
| Go | go.mod, go.sum | govulncheck |
| Rust | Cargo.toml, Cargo.lock | cargo-audit |
| PHP | composer.json, composer.lock | composer audit |
| .NET | *.csproj, packages.config | dotnet list --vulnerable |

## Scan Modes

### Full Scan
```
/dependency-scan
```
Scans all detected package managers, reports all severity levels.

### Specific Ecosystem
```
/dependency-scan --npm
/dependency-scan --pip
/dependency-scan --go
```

### Severity Filter
```
/dependency-scan --severity critical,high
/dependency-scan --severity medium
```

### Auto-Fix Mode
```
/dependency-scan --fix
/dependency-scan --fix --dry-run    # Preview changes
```

Attempts to update vulnerable packages to patched versions.
