## What it does

dembrandt is an orchestrator, not a single check. It splits interface work into six ordered stages: brand foundation, design tokens and scales, layout and structure, components and interaction, UX polish, then accessibility and a technical gate. Sub-skills load on demand, so only what the task needs lands in context.

Gates sit between stages. Brand tone and the colour system have to be agreed before token decisions start, and stage six is a hard ship gate: no WCAG 2.2 AA, no pass. That last point matters if you ship after June 2025 — the EU Accessibility Act requires it.

You get one structured review instead of a stream of loose comments. Findings are grouped by severity, blockers first. For a single concern — a palette, say, or button states — the orchestrator is overkill; go straight to the sub-skill.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill dembrandt -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dembrandt/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dembrandt/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill dembrandt -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dembrandt/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill dembrandt -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dembrandt/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install dembrandt/dembrandt-skills dembrandt
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dembrandt/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill dembrandt -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --path skills/dembrandt
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dembrandt/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add dembrandt/dembrandt-skills --skill dembrandt -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- run a full interface review across several design concerns at once
- build a UI from scratch without skipping tokens or component states
- check accessibility before release and catch the blockers
- settle the colour system and brand tone before layout work starts
- sort design findings by how badly they block the release

## Example prompts
- do a full design review of this interface
- build a UI from scratch following best practices
- run the dembrandt pipeline on this product

# dembrandt — UX Pipeline Orchestrator

> Concept by [@VictorGjn](https://github.com/VictorGjn).

Routes multi-concern UI/UX tasks through six ordered stages. Each stage loads sub-skills on demand — only what the task actually needs.

**When to use this skill vs a sub-skill directly:**

- Multi-concern task ("design review", "audit interface", "build UI") → use this orchestrator
- Single-concern task ("check my colour palette", "review button states") → go directly to the sub-skill
- Brand-to-token-to-spec pipeline with a URL or DESIGN.md → use `generate-ui-from-brand` instead
- Reproducing an existing page rather than designing one → use `clone-website` instead
- Reading the tokens off a live site and nothing more → use `extract-design` instead

---

## Pipeline

### Stage 1 — Brand Foundation

Establish the visual language before making any token decisions.

Sub-skills (load as needed):
- `brand-visual-language` — shape language, icon style, typography tone
- `algorithmic-color-palette` — derive states and brand-tinted greys from brand colours
- `color-mode-and-theme` — light vs dark vs combined, when to offer a theme selector

**Gate:** Brand tone and colour system agreed before proceeding.

---

### Stage 2 — Design Tokens & Scales

Pin the numeric system so all components share a common foundation.

Sub-skills (load as needed):
- `modular-scale-typography` — ratio-based type scales, minimum sizes, context-aware usage
- `elevation-and-depth` — shadow scale, border-radius, card and modal patterns
- `surface-separation` — one means per surface: border, elevation or fill; opacity is for state
```
