## What it does

The skill hands your agent a Java-specific OWASP Top 10 checklist. It opens with a table mapping all ten risks to mitigations: access control, cryptography, injection, insecure design, misconfiguration, vulnerable components, authentication failures, data integrity, logging and SSRF. The agent consults it whenever you ask about vulnerabilities in your code.

Then come framework-level examples. Bean Validation (JSR 380) applies to Spring, Quarkus, Jakarta EE and plain Java — `@NotNull`, `@Size`, `@Pattern` on request fields, `@Valid` in the controller. Custom validators via `ConstraintValidator` get their own section, along with the allowlist-versus-blocklist argument: the skill treats allowlists as the working approach because blocklists get bypassed. For SQL injection it shows parameterized queries across JPA, the Criteria API, native queries and raw JDBC with `PreparedStatement`.

On XSS the advice is template auto-escaping first, manual encoding through OWASP Encoder second, plus a Content Security Policy header — via `SecurityFilterChain` in Spring Boot, or a servlet filter anywhere else. Manual encoding needs the `org.owasp.encoder:encoder` dependency in your `pom.xml`. Everything here assumes a Java codebase, so the examples won't transfer to another stack.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add decebals/claude-code-java --skill security-audit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/security-audit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add decebals/claude-code-java --skill security-audit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add decebals/claude-code-java --skill security-audit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install decebals/claude-code-java security-audit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add decebals/claude-code-java --skill security-audit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/decebals/claude-code-java --path skills/security-audit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add decebals/claude-code-java --skill security-audit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/decebals/claude-code-java/tree/HEAD/skills/security-audit/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check controllers for SQL injection before shipping
- find inputs that skip validation at the boundary
- review authentication and authorization code for holes
- close XSS gaps in templates and response headers
- go through dependencies and security configuration

## Example prompts
- Audit this Spring controller against the OWASP Top 10
- Is there a SQL injection here? This is the repository method with JPQL
- Do a security review of the auth code before release

# Security Audit Skill

Security checklist for Java applications based on OWASP Top 10 and secure coding practices.

## When to Use
- Security code review
- Before production releases
- User asks about "security", "vulnerability", "OWASP"
- Reviewing authentication/authorization code
- Checking for injection vulnerabilities

---

## OWASP Top 10 Quick Reference

| # | Risk | Java Mitigation |
|---|------|-----------------|
| A01 | Broken Access Control | Role-based checks, deny by default |
| A02 | Cryptographic Failures | Use strong algorithms, no hardcoded secrets |
| A03 | Injection | Parameterized queries, input validation |
| A04 | Insecure Design | Threat modeling, secure defaults |
| A05 | Security Misconfiguration | Disable debug, secure headers |
| A06 | Vulnerable Components | Dependency scanning, updates |
| A07 | Authentication Failures | Strong passwords, MFA, session management |
| A08 | Data Integrity Failures | Verify signatures, secure deserialization |
| A09 | Logging Failures | Log security events, no sensitive data |
| A10 | SSRF | Validate URLs, allowlist domains |

## Input Validation (All Frameworks)

### Bean Validation (JSR 380)

Works in Spring, Quarkus, Jakarta EE, and standalone.

```java
// ✅ GOOD: Validate at boundary
public class CreateUserRequest {
    @NotNull(message = "Username is required")
    @Size(min = 3, max = 50, message = "Username must be 3-50 characters")
    @Pattern(regexp = "^[a-zA-Z0-9_]+$", message = "Username can only contain letters, numbers, underscore")
    private String username;
    @NotNull
    @Email(message = "Invalid email format")
    private String email;
    @NotNull
    @Size(min = 8, max = 100)
    @Pattern(regexp = "^(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*\\d).*$",
             message = "Password must contain uppercase, lowercase, and number")
    private String password;
    @Min(value = 0, message = "Age cannot be negative")
    @Max(value = 150, message = "Invalid age")
    private Integer age;
}
// Controller/Resource - trigger validation
public Response createUser(@Valid CreateUserRequest request) {
````
