# dd-docs

The dd-docs skill connects your agent to Datadog documentation via llms.txt, an LLM-optimized index of every doc page.

## What it does

The skill fetches `docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt`, a file listing all documentation pages with URLs, descriptions, and Markdown source links. Your agent sees the full product map (APM, Logs, Monitors, Synthetics, RUM, Security) and can pull any page as `.md` by appending the extension to the URL.

Inside are `curl` commands to grep the index for topics and download specific sections. A table of key areas (tracing, metrics, dashboards, API) cuts navigation time. The skill reads public docs only; it makes no requests to the Datadog API itself.

For regional sites like `datadoghq.eu`, swap the domain manually — the skill defaults to `.com`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Datadog

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add datadog-labs/agent-skills --skill dd-docs -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dd-docs/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dd-docs/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add datadog-labs/agent-skills --skill dd-docs -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dd-docs/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add datadog-labs/agent-skills --skill dd-docs -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dd-docs/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install datadog-labs/agent-skills dd-docs
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dd-docs/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add datadog-labs/agent-skills --skill dd-docs -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/datadog-labs/agent-skills --path dd-docs
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dd-docs/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add datadog-labs/agent-skills --skill dd-docs -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/datadog-labs/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/dd-docs/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- look up monitor or metric limits in Datadog documentation
- download the Markdown source of an APM or logs section
- verify feature availability in official docs before setup
- cross-check query syntax against the canonical reference

## Example prompts
- Find how many tags a single Datadog metric can have in the docs
- Download the RUM page from docs.datadoghq.com as Markdown
- Show me the Synthetics section link from the llms.txt index

# Datadog Docs

Use this skill to locate Datadog documentation and limits.

## LLM-Friendly Documentation

Datadog provides an LLM-optimized documentation index at:

```
https://docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt
```

This file contains:
- Overview of all Datadog products organized by use case
- Full list of documentation pages with URLs and descriptions
- Direct links to Markdown sources (append `.md` to URLs)

### How to Use llms.txt

1. **Fetch the index** to understand available documentation:
   ```bash
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt | head -100
   ```

2. **Search for specific topics**:

Examples:

   ```bash
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt | grep -i "monitors"
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt | grep -i "apm"
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/llms.txt | grep -i "logs"
   ```

3. **Fetch specific doc pages** (add .md to most Datadog Docs URLs for raw content):
   ```bash
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/monitors.md
   curl -s https://docs.datadoghq.com/tracing.md
   ```

### Key Documentation Sections

| Topic | URL |

| Incidents | https://docs.datadoghq.com/service_management/incident_management/ |
| API Reference | https://docs.datadoghq.com/api/ |

## Scope Guardrails

- Use llms.txt for documentation lookups
- Defer to official docs for feature availability and limits

## Failure Handling

- If docs.datadoghq.com is unreachable, check network connectivity
- For region-specific docs, use appropriate site (datadoghq.eu, etc.)
