## What it does

The skill writes a self-contained HTML file with inline CSS and SVG, ready to open in a browser without network access. It supports metric cards, grouped bar charts, process diagrams, and mixed dashboards. Choose from eight color palettes or let the tool select one; metric cards can use built-in icons.

You need Python 3.7+ and a JSON configuration containing the visualization type and data. Run `scripts/build_infographic.py` with a config path or pipe JSON through stdin; set the destination with the `output` field, which defaults to `infographic.html`. Check the Python version first: the script requires Python 3.7+. It uses the standard library, so no external packages need installation.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill data-viz-renderer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/data-viz-renderer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/data-viz-renderer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill data-viz-renderer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/data-viz-renderer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill data-viz-renderer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/data-viz-renderer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install zebbern/claude-code-guide data-viz-renderer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/data-viz-renderer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill data-viz-renderer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/zebbern/claude-code-guide --path skills/data-viz-renderer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/data-viz-renderer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill data-viz-renderer -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- turn JSON data into a standalone HTML infographic
- show metrics and trends in stat cards
- compare data series in a grouped bar chart
- map process stages with connecting arrows
- combine metrics and charts in a dashboard

## Example prompts
- Build a dashboard from the metrics in `metrics.json` with `scripts/build_infographic.py`.
- Turn this JSON into a grouped bar chart comparing the quarterly figures.
- Create an HTML process diagram from the stages in `workflow.json`.

# Data Viz Renderer

Generate self-contained HTML/SVG infographics from JSON data. Four supported types:

1. **Stats Cards** — KPI big numbers + trend arrows + icons
2. **Comparison Chart** — Grouped bar chart with multiple series
3. **Flow Diagram** — Step-by-step process with numbering, icons, and connecting arrows
4. **Dashboard** — Mixed layout: stat cards + bar chart + donut chart + flow

Output is a **fully self-contained** HTML file (all CSS/SVG inline, no external dependencies), ready to open directly in a browser.

## Usage

### Basic Usage

```bash
python3 scripts/build_infographic.py config.json
```

Also supports reading from stdin:

```bash
cat config.json | python3 scripts/build_infographic.py
```

The script outputs a JSON status to stdout and writes the generated HTML to the path specified in the `output` field.
