## What it does

The skill estimates referral traffic traveling through private messages, group chats, and newsletter forwards where referrers drop off. It uses manual exports from GA4 and Google Search Console to break down direct landing page visits. External search interest is matched against Wikipedia page views using `scripts/connectors/pageviews.py`. Every calculated metric is marked with an Estimated or proxy label.

Instead of lengthening the signup flow, it designs a self-reported attribution field to replace an existing input. It also generates UTM rules for share buttons across blog posts and documentation. It never injects tracking pixels. Paid conversion reconciliation belongs strictly to `attribution-reconciler`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill dark-social-attributor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dark-social-attributor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dark-social-attributor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill dark-social-attributor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dark-social-attributor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill dark-social-attributor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dark-social-attributor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills dark-social-attributor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dark-social-attributor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill dark-social-attributor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --path social/observe/dark-social-attributor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dark-social-attributor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill dark-social-attributor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- decompose GA4 direct traffic into plausible dark social visits
- design a self-reported attribution field by replacing an existing form input
- define UTM tagging specs for owned share buttons and newsletters
- evaluate branded search lift through GSC queries and Wikipedia traffic

## Example prompts
- Decompose our GA4 direct traffic using this 90-day landing-page export: [paste]. How much is plausibly dark social?
- Spec share-link hygiene for our blog and docs. Share buttons exist on [pages]; the newsletter is on [platform]. Short links and UTMs where they belong.
- Design the 'how did you hear about us' field for our signup form. Current fields: [list]. Replace one rather than adding a new field.
