## What it does

The skill handles the boring part of a literature sweep. You give it a topic and a time window, it pulls matching papers, drops the off-topic ones and narrows the pool down to a single pick per field. Sources are arXiv, bioRxiv, or both at once with `--source both`.

Selection follows a fixed funnel: Top 10 candidates, then Top 3 by score, then Top 1. The skill has to show the intermediate lists, so you can see why one paper won. Each finalist gets a Chinese review of roughly 300 words and a shorter English one, plus a metadata table. Output lands in `daily paper/` as `YYYY-MM-DD-HHMM-paper-1.md`.

Search runs through `scripts/arxiv_search.py`, which needs Python. Scoring rules, query templates and review style live in `references/quality-criteria.md`, `references/keywords.md` and `references/writing-style.md`. When a paper has weak evaluation, the skill flags confidence and limitations instead of overselling it, and it will not invent missing fields such as code links. Keep the topic specific — a one-word query returns noise.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill daily-paper-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/daily-paper-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill daily-paper-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill daily-paper-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar daily-paper-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill daily-paper-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --path skills/daily-paper-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill daily-paper-generator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar/tree/HEAD/skills/daily-paper-generator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull recent papers on a topic from the past month
- filter off-topic hits out of an arXiv search
- rank candidates by score and settle on one paper
- get a review in both Chinese and English
- keep digests in one folder with consistent naming

## Example prompts
- Build a digest of papers on test-time adaptation for medical imaging from the last month, source both
- Find recent protein language model interpretability papers on bioRxiv and review the top one
- Generate a daily digest on multimodal foundation model for healthcare and save it to daily paper/

# Daily Paper Generator

## Overview

Discover, screen, and summarize recent papers for any research topic.

Supported sources:
- arXiv
- bioRxiv
- both (`--source both`)

Core workflow:
1. Define topic query and time window
2. Search papers from arXiv / bioRxiv
3. Select Top 10 candidates per field
4. Score and narrow to Top 3 per field
5. Choose Top 1 per field
6. Generate bilingual summaries
7. Save outputs to `daily paper/`

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
- The user asks for a daily/weekly paper digest on any topic
- The user wants recent papers from arXiv and/or bioRxiv
- The user needs structured bilingual notes for reading and tracking

## Output Format

Each summary should contain:
1. Paper title
2. Authors and venue/source
3. Link(s) and date
4. Chinese review (~300 words)
5. English review (concise academic prose)
6. Metadata table
7. Appendix (optional resources)

## Quick Reference

| Task | Method |
|---|---|
| Search papers | Use `scripts/arxiv_search.py` with `--source arxiv|biorxiv|both` |
| Topic selection | Use general-topic queries from `references/keywords.md` |
| Evaluate quality | Use `references/quality-criteria.md` |
| Write Chinese review | Use `references/writing-style.md` |
| Write English review | Follow scientific writing best practices |

## Workflow

### Step 1: Define query

Choose a concrete topic query. Examples:
- `test-time adaptation for medical imaging`
- `multimodal foundation model for healthcare`
- `protein language model interpretability`

### Step 2: Search arXiv and/or bioRxiv

Use helper script:

```bash
python skills/daily-paper-generator/scripts/arxiv_search.py \
  --query "test-time adaptation for medical imaging" \
  --source both \
  --months 1 \
  --max-results 80 \
  --output /tmp/papers.json
```

Notes:
- `--source arxiv`: arXiv only
- `--source biorxiv`: bioRxiv only
- `--source both`: merge both sources and sort by date

### Step 3: Top 10 candidate selection (per field)

For each candidate paper:
1. Check topic relevance from title + abstract
2. Remove obviously off-topic papers
3. Keep **Top 10 candidates** for this field

Minimum rule:
- Do not jump directly from raw search results to final paper.
