## What it does

The skill creates a Slack app for Cyrus from a manifest. It fills in the agent name, description, and `CYRUS_BASE_URL`, then sets the `/slack-webhook` event endpoint, Slack events, and permissions for messages, files, channels, and reactions.

It first checks `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN` in `~/.cyrus/.env`. The manifest needs `CYRUS_BASE_URL`, `AGENT_NAME`, and `AGENT_DESCRIPTION`; without them, setup cannot build the app definition. Secrets under `~/.cyrus/` are handled with Bash commands rather than being read into the conversation.

The app is created only through the From a manifest flow. When browser automation is available, the skill uses `claude-in-chrome` or `agent-browser`; otherwise it guides the user through the manual path. It then guides credential storage after app creation.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cyrusagents/cyrus --skill cyrus-setup-slack -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cyrusagents/cyrus --skill cyrus-setup-slack -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cyrusagents/cyrus --skill cyrus-setup-slack -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install cyrusagents/cyrus cyrus-setup-slack
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cyrusagents/cyrus --skill cyrus-setup-slack -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/cyrusagents/cyrus --path skills/cyrus-setup-slack
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cyrusagents/cyrus --skill cyrus-setup-slack -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/cyrusagents/cyrus/tree/HEAD/skills/cyrus-setup-slack/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a Cyrus Slack app from a manifest
- set the `/slack-webhook` event endpoint
- check an existing `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN`
- add the Cyrus URL to OAuth redirects
- choose manual or browser-driven app creation

## Example prompts
- Set up Slack for Cyrus and create the app from the manifest.
- Check Slack configuration in `~/.cyrus/.env` and configure the Cyrus integration.
- Create a Slack app for my agent using `CYRUS_BASE_URL`.

**CRITICAL: Never use `Read`, `Edit`, or `Write` tools on `~/.cyrus/.env` or any file inside `~/.cyrus/`. Use only `Bash` commands (`grep`, `printf >>`, etc.) to interact with env files — secrets must never be read into the conversation context. Never scrape, extract, or read secret values from web pages — guide the user to copy them manually.**

# Setup Slack

Creates a Slack application from a pre-built manifest so Cyrus can respond to messages in Slack channels.

## Step 1: Check Existing Configuration

```bash
grep -E '^SLACK_BOT_TOKEN=' ~/.cyrus/.env 2>/dev/null
```

If `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN` is already set, inform the user:

> Slack is already configured. Skipping this step.
> To reconfigure, remove `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN` and `SLACK_SIGNING_SECRET` from `~/.cyrus/.env` and re-run.

Skip to completion.

## Step 2: Read Variables

Read the base URL (set by `setup-endpoint`):

```bash
grep '^CYRUS_BASE_URL=' ~/.cyrus/.env | cut -d= -f2-
```

You also need `AGENT_NAME` and `AGENT_DESCRIPTION` — these were collected in Step 0 of the orchestrator and should be available from the conversation context.

## Step 3: Build Manifest JSON

Construct the manifest, substituting `<AGENT_NAME>`, `<AGENT_DESCRIPTION>`, and `<CYRUS_BASE_URL>` with actual values.

**IMPORTANT: Use the manifest template EXACTLY as shown below.** The event subscription path MUST be `/slack-webhook` (not `/slack/events` or any other path). This matches the route registered by `SlackEventTransport` in the Cyrus codebase.

**NOTE: this list of scopes must be kept in sync with the Slack App configuration and the list of scopes defined at [https://github.com/cyrusagents/cyrus-hosted/blob/main/apps/app/src/lib/slack/constants.ts](https://github.com/cyrusagents/cyrus-hosted/blob/main/apps/app/src/lib/slack/constants.ts). If you change scopes here, propose matching changes there and update any live Slack App configuration that relies on this manifest.**
