## What it does

The skill gives the agent a working frame for Cypress suites in TypeScript. It starts with the command queue: `cy.get` and `cy.click` are not executed when called, they are enqueued and run in order. That is why `async/await` does not work here and why you cannot store a command's return value in a variable. The same model explains most flaky tests — waiting with `cy.wait(3000)` instead of an alias on a network request.

Inside you get retry-ability spelled out (Cypress retries queries and assertions, never actions), a project layout that splits `e2e/`, `component/`, `fixtures/` and `support/`, and a `cypress.config.ts` with `baseUrl` pulled from env vars and `retries.runMode` set for CI. Separate sections cover typed custom commands, component testing for a given framework and bundler, cross-origin auth with `cy.origin`, and parallel runs on Cypress Cloud.

One trap is worth knowing before you write the login command: `cy.session` caches cookies and storage, but without a `validate()` callback the cache is never re-checked, so an expired token gets reused silently. The skill insists on a `validate()` that hits an authenticated endpoint. If your suite is on Playwright, this is the wrong skill — reach for `playwright-automation` instead.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill cypress-automation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cypress-automation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill cypress-automation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill cypress-automation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install petrkindlmann/qa-skills cypress-automation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill cypress-automation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills --path skills/cypress-automation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill cypress-automation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cypress-automation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write an E2E spec that loads a page, intercepts a request and asserts the result
- replace `cy.wait(3000)` with a wait on a network alias
- add a typed custom command with autocomplete
- log in through `cy.session` without reusing a dead session
- mount and test a single component in isolation

## Example prompts
- write a Cypress E2E test: visit /checkout, intercept POST /api/order and assert the toast appears
- add a typed login custom command using cy.session with a validate() callback
- set up cypress.config.ts with baseUrl from an env var, retries.runMode 2 and component testing for React + Vite

<objective>
Production-grade Cypress test suites in TypeScript. The failure this prevents: tests written as if Cypress commands ran synchronously (storing `cy.get()` in a variable, `await cy.click()`), and tests that flake because they wait on `cy.wait(3000)` instead of a network alias. This skill covers the mental model (command queue, retry-ability), project structure, custom commands, network control with `cy.intercept`, component testing, cross-origin auth with `cy.origin`, and Cypress Cloud / CI integration.
