## What it does

The skill hands the agent a set of `cx dashboards` commands for looking through dashboards that already exist. There are two kinds of search: by natural-language description (`cx dashboards search "<description>"`) and by widgets whose queries match a description or reference a specific field (`cx dashboards query-search --description` and `--field`). A full listing is available too, via `cx dashboards catalog -o json`.

Add `-o json` or `-o toon` for machine-readable output. Once you find a dashboard, pull its full definition with `cx dashboards get <id> -o json`, then create a copy from that JSON using `cx dashboards create --from-file dashboard.json`. Handy for reusing existing PromQL or DataPrime queries instead of writing them from scratch.

Description search is fuzzy: results are ranked by similarity, not exact match. If the first phrasing returns nothing useful, try a few more. The `cx` CLI has to be installed and configured — without it the commands won't run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coralogix/cx-cli --skill cx-search-dashboard -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cx-search-dashboard/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coralogix/cx-cli --skill cx-search-dashboard -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coralogix/cx-cli --skill cx-search-dashboard -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coralogix/cx-cli cx-search-dashboard
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coralogix/cx-cli --skill cx-search-dashboard -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coralogix/cx-cli --path skills/cx-search-dashboard
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coralogix/cx-cli --skill cx-search-dashboard -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coralogix/cx-cli/tree/HEAD/skills/cx-search-dashboard/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check whether a dashboard for a service already exists
- find widgets that query a specific field
- list every dashboard in the account
- pull a dashboard's JSON and clone it
- borrow existing PromQL or DataPrime query patterns

## Example prompts
- find a dashboard about payment service errors
- which widgets query the `$d.http.status_code` field
- show me all dashboards as JSON

# Dashboard Search Skill

Use this skill to discover existing Coralogix dashboards and widgets using semantic or field-based search via the `cx dashboards` CLI commands. Before creating a new dashboard, always search first to avoid duplication.

## CLI Commands

| Command | Purpose | Key flags |
|---|---|---|
| `cx dashboards search "<description>"` | Find dashboards by natural-language description | `--limit` |
| `cx dashboards query-search --description "<text>"` | Find widgets whose queries match a description | `--limit` |
| `cx dashboards query-search --field "<field-path>"` | Find all widgets that reference a specific field | `--limit` |
| `cx dashboards catalog -o json` | List all dashboards | - |
| `cx dashboards get <id> -o json` | Get full dashboard definition | - |

**Output format:** append `-o json` or `-o toon` for machine-readable output.

## When to Use Each Command

| Goal | Command |
|---|---|
| Check if a dashboard for a service or topic already exists | `cx dashboards search` |
| Find widgets whose queries cover a topic you care about | `cx dashboards query-search --description` |
| Find widgets whose queries reference a specific field path | `cx dashboards query-search --field` |
| Browse all dashboards | `cx dashboards catalog` |

## Examples

### Find a dashboard for a service

```bash
cx dashboards search "payment service error rate"
cx dashboards search "kubernetes node cpu"
```

### Find widgets whose queries cover a topic

```bash
cx dashboards query-search --description "http 5xx error rate"
cx dashboards query-search --description "p99 latency over time"
```

### Find all widgets that reference a field

```bash
cx dashboards query-search --field '$d.http.status_code'
cx dashboards query-search --field '$d.kubernetes.pod.name'
```

This reveals query patterns already in use — useful for reusing existing approaches when adding new widgets.

### Inspect and clone a found dashboard

```bash
# Get full JSON of a dashboard you found
cx dashboards get <dashboard-id> -o json > dashboard.json
# Modify it, then create a copy
cx dashboards create --from-file dashboard.json
```
