## What it does

The skill takes a rough issue description and a customer name, then writes a brief you can hand off. Severity, target team, affected accounts, revenue at risk, time in queue, troubleshooting already attempted, and reproduction steps when the problem is a bug.

It walks through seven stages: parse the issue, pull context from connected sources, size the business impact, pick an escalation tier, format repro steps, generate the brief, then suggest follow-ups. Context comes from a support platform, CRM, chat, project tracker and knowledge base — each only if you have it wired up. Run it without those connections and you still get a brief, just a thinner one built from your own notes.

Bundled criteria settle the common argument about whether something belongs in support or needs a handoff, and four tiers are defined: L1 → L2, L2 → Engineering, L2 → Product, Any → Security. Security skips the normal tier order. Bug escalations expect environment details and evidence, so have logs and exact steps ready before you run it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill customer-escalation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/customer-escalation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill customer-escalation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill customer-escalation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins customer-escalation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill customer-escalation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --path customer-support/skills/customer-escalation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill customer-escalation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins/tree/HEAD/customer-support/skills/customer-escalation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a bug handoff engineers can act on without a follow-up call
- show leadership how many accounts are hit and what revenue is exposed
- decide whether a ticket stays in support or gets escalated
- merge reports from several customers into one brief
- route a suspected data exposure straight to the security team

## Example prompts
- /customer-escalation API returns 500 intermittently for Acme Corp
- /customer-escalation data export drops rows, 3 customers reported this week
- /customer-escalation customer threatening to churn over missing audit log

Package a support issue into a structured escalation brief for engineering, product, or leadership. Gathers context, structures reproduction steps, assesses business impact, and identifies the right escalation target.

## Usage

```
/customer-escalation <issue description> [customer name or account]
```

Examples:
- `/customer-escalation API returning 500 errors intermittently for Acme Corp`
- `/customer-escalation Data export is missing rows — 3 customers reported this week`
- `/customer-escalation SSO login loop affecting all Enterprise customers`
- `/customer-escalation Customer threatening to churn over missing audit log feature`

## Workflow

### 1. Understand the Issue

Parse the input and determine:

- **What's broken or needed**: The core technical or product issue
- **Who's affected**: Specific customer(s), segment, or all users
- **How long**: When did this start? How long has the customer been waiting?
- **What's been tried**: Any troubleshooting or workarounds attempted
- **Why escalate now**: What makes this need attention beyond normal support

Use the "When to Escalate vs. Handle in Support" criteria below to confirm this warrants escalation.

### 2. Gather Context

Pull together relevant information from available sources:

- **~~support platform**: Related tickets, timeline of communications, previous troubleshooting
- **~~CRM** (if connected): Account details, key contacts, previous escalations
- **~~chat**: Internal discussions about this issue, similar reports from other customers
- **~~project tracker** (if connected): Related bug reports or feature requests, engineering status
- **~~knowledge base**: Known issues or workarounds, relevant documentation

### 3. Assess Business Impact

Using the impact dimensions below, quantify:

- **Breadth**: How many customers/users affected? Growing?
