## What it does

Standard technical analysis was built for equities and forex, where supply is fixed and exchanges are regulated. Crypto breaks both assumptions: every transaction is public, emission schedules are programmatic, and perpetual futures often drag spot price along rather than the reverse. This skill fills that gap with formulas written for crypto markets.

Nine indicators ship inside. NVT divides market cap by on-chain transaction volume, the crypto cousin of a P/E ratio. MVRV compares market cap to the aggregate cost basis of holders. Then come exchange netflow, funding rate across perpetuals, open interest momentum, holder activity and smart money flow. Each section carries a formula, signal thresholds and data sources: CoinGecko, DeFiLlama, Glassnode, CryptoQuant, Binance, Bybit, dYdX.

Two scripts do the work: `scripts/compute_crypto_indicators.py` computes all nine from free APIs or demo data, and `scripts/holder_momentum.py` tracks holder counts with momentum signals. The reference files `references/indicator_formulas.md` and `references/signal_interpretation.md` cover composite scoring and false signal filtering. Worth knowing before you install: some indicators lean on paid sources such as Glassnode and CryptoQuant, and MVRV for Solana tokens is only an approximation built from the average entry price of top holders.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill custom-indicators -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/custom-indicators/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill custom-indicators -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill custom-indicators -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills custom-indicators
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill custom-indicators -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --path skills/custom-indicators
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill custom-indicators -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/custom-indicators/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- compute NVT to check whether a network is overvalued against real transaction volume
- compare market cap with holder cost basis through MVRV
- track deposits to exchanges as a sell-side signal
- aggregate funding rates from several exchanges into one volume-weighted value
- measure open interest momentum across derivatives venues

## Example prompts
- compute NVT for this token using CoinGecko and DeFiLlama data
- pull funding rates from Binance and Bybit and give me the signal
- run scripts/holder_momentum.py and show the holder momentum

# Custom Crypto Indicators

## Why Standard TA Falls Short for Crypto

Traditional technical analysis was built for equities and forex — markets with
fixed supply, regulated exchanges, and institutional-dominated order flow.
Crypto markets have unique properties that demand purpose-built indicators:

- **On-chain transparency**: Every transaction is public. We can measure real
  economic activity, not just price and volume on a single exchange.
- **Supply mechanics**: Fixed or programmatic supply schedules make
  supply-side analysis (velocity, holder distribution) meaningful.
- **Derivatives dominance**: Perpetual futures funding rates and open interest
  often drive spot price, not the other way around.
- **Whale concentration**: A small number of wallets hold outsized supply.
  Tracking their behavior provides alpha that equity-market TA cannot.
- **Exchange flows**: On-chain deposit/withdrawal to centralized exchanges
  signals intent to sell or accumulate.

This skill covers nine crypto-native indicators. Each section includes the
formula, interpretation guide, data sources, and a working code snippet.

## Files

| File | Description |
|------|-------------|
| `references/indicator_formulas.md` | Full formulas, parameter tables, signal ranges for all 9 indicators |
| `references/signal_interpretation.md` | Composite scoring, divergence detection, false signal filtering |
| `scripts/compute_crypto_indicators.py` | Computes all 9 indicators from free APIs or demo data |
| `scripts/holder_momentum.py` | Holder count tracking with momentum signals |

## Indicator 1: NVT Ratio

**Network Value to Transactions** — the crypto equivalent of a P/E ratio.

```
NVT = Market Cap / Daily On-Chain Transaction Volume (USD)
```

- **High NVT (> 65)**: Network is overvalued relative to its economic
  throughput. Bearish signal.
- **Low NVT (< 25)**: Network is undervalued or seeing heavy real usage.
  Bullish signal.
- **Data sources**: CoinGecko (market cap), blockchain explorers or
  DeFiLlama (transaction volume).
