Audits Cursor rules and memory-bank context: flags stale, conflicting and over-broad instructions, then suggests where each one belongs.

## What it does

The skill treats Cursor's durable context as user-owned state. It covers Project Rules, legacy `.cursorrules`, `AGENTS.md`, User Rules, Team Rules and memory-bank artifacts. Each rule gets split into atomic claims, and every claim gets exactly one classification: keep, rewrite, move elsewhere, or delete.

Eight workflows ship with it, from read-only review to cleanup with a backup. Two scripts do the heavy lifting: `scripts/inventory-cursor-context.mjs` builds the inventory, `scripts/scan-cursor-context-risks.mjs` looks for sensitive, stale or conflict-prone rules. Exit code `1` from the scanner means findings, not a failure.

A request about one file does not license a full-repo scan, so reads stay targeted. User Rules and Team Rules are treated as settings evidence and left alone unless a documented file path is in scope. When review versus cleanup is unclear, the skill stops and asks before touching anything.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stark-ai-de/agent-skills --skill cursor-memory-curator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cursor-memory-curator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stark-ai-de/agent-skills --skill cursor-memory-curator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stark-ai-de/agent-skills --skill cursor-memory-curator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install stark-ai-de/agent-skills cursor-memory-curator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stark-ai-de/agent-skills --skill cursor-memory-curator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/stark-ai-de/agent-skills --path skills/cursor-operations/cursor-memory-curator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stark-ai-de/agent-skills --skill cursor-memory-curator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/stark-ai-de/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cursor-operations/cursor-memory-curator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find stale Cursor rules before they leak into new tasks
- resolve two rules that contradict each other
- move an instruction out of `.cursor/rules` into `AGENTS.md`
- clean up a memory-bank with a backup first
- catch secrets and over-broad rules in agent context

## Example prompts
- Review the Cursor rules in this repo and tell me what's stale
- Plan a cleanup of `.cursor/rules` with a backup, no edits yet
- Find conflicting rules in `.cursor/rules` and suggest where they should live

# Cursor Memory Curator

## Goal

Audit Cursor durable context as user-owned agent state: expose stale, unsafe, duplicated, ignored, conflicting, or misplaced rules; propose better destinations; and route review, planning, persistence, and cleanup through one explicit contract.

Keep the subject scoped to Cursor Project Rules, legacy `.cursorrules`, `AGENTS.md`, User Rules, Team Rules, and user-maintained Cursor memory-bank artifacts. Do not treat this as a Codex memory curator.

## When to use

- Use for review, placement, planning, or cleanup of the Cursor durable surfaces named in the description.
- Use when those surfaces are stale, conflicting, sensitive, ignored, over-broad, or causing Cursor to forget or reuse old guidance.

## When not to use

- Do not use for Codex memory, ordinary docs, or generic prompt work without Cursor durable context.
- Keep review requests read-only. Keep User/Team Rules manual unless a documented file-backed artifact or explicitly approved export path is in scope.

## Workflow selection

Expose all eight workflows in this stable order, compactly when intent is clear. Recommend the route matching the requested outcome and delivery; for a bare invocation recommend `review-chat` while asking the user to choose:

| Workflow                | Delivery and result                                                          |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `plan-run-cleanup-file` | One record: review, approved plan, backup, cleanup, verification. |
| `review-chat`           | Chat: read-only review and recommendations.                                  |
| `review-file`           | One record: read-only review and recommendations.                            |
| `cleanup-chat`          | Chat and backup: review, high-confidence atomic cleanup, verification.       |
| `cleanup-file` | One record and backup: review, high-confidence atomic cleanup, verification. |
| `plan-cleanup-chat` | Chat: review and approved plan; no cleanup. |
```
