## What it does

This skill manages Crontap uptime monitors sending HTTP GET probes. Status 200 through 399 marks healthy responses. Network drops, timeouts, and unexpected status codes count as failed checks. The agent can configure probe frequencies, notification cooldowns, and the consecutive error count before triggering alerts.

Under the hood, the skill calls `create_monitor`, `update_monitor`, and `get_monitor_probes`. Before maintenance, the agent sets monitor status to `paused` to silence false alerts, switching it back to `pending` once work finishes. It can also inspect probe history for a specific UTC date.

Operation requires the Crontap MCP endpoint at `https://mcp.crontap.com/mcp` or direct REST calls. Direct REST requires an Ultra plan alongside `$CRONTAP_CLIENT_ID` and `$CRONTAP_API_KEY`. Endpoints returning 401 or 403 indicate private URLs that public probes cannot reach.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Crontap/skills --skill crontap-uptime-monitor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Crontap/skills --skill crontap-uptime-monitor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Crontap/skills --skill crontap-uptime-monitor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Crontap/skills crontap-uptime-monitor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Crontap/skills --skill crontap-uptime-monitor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Crontap/skills --path skills/crontap-uptime-monitor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/crontap-uptime-monitor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Crontap/skills --skill crontap-uptime-monitor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- monitor HTTP endpoint health with configurable probe cadences
- suppress false alarms during maintenance by pausing checks
- retrieve probe logs for a specific UTC date to analyze failures
- define consecutive failure thresholds before triggering downtime alerts

## Example prompts
- Set up uptime monitoring for `https://api.example.com/health` every 5 minutes with a 2-failure threshold
- Pause monitor `<monitor-id>` until deployment finishes
- Fetch probe logs for monitor `<monitor-id>` on 2026-09-14

# Monitor an HTTP endpoint

Crontap uptime monitors send HTTP GET probes. HTTP 200 through 399 is healthy.
Network errors, timeouts, and other status codes count as failed probes.

## Prerequisites

Before using the required tools, check whether they are available. If any are
missing, stop and offer the user exactly two choices:

1. Connect Crontap MCP at `https://mcp.crontap.com/mcp`. MCP access works on
   every Crontap tier.
2. Configure `$CRONTAP_CLIENT_ID` and `$CRONTAP_API_KEY` for the raw API. Raw
   API access requires Ultra.

Do not silently choose a path or continue until the user selects one.

- Select a lightweight health URL that represents the dependency being
  monitored.
- Confirm the required interval and consecutive-failure threshold.
- Decide whether planned deploys should pause the monitor.

## Workflow

1. Create the monitor with a name, URL, interval, and threshold.
2. Verify the saved cadence and pending state.
3. Inspect a UTC day of probes after the first checks run.
4. Set `status` to `paused` before a maintenance window when alerts would be
   misleading.
5. Set `status` to `pending` after maintenance to resume cleanly.

## MCP examples

Create a five-minute monitor that becomes down after two failures:

```json
{
  "tool": "create_monitor",
  "arguments": {
    "name": "Public API health",
    "url": "https://api.example.com/health",
    "intervalMinutes": 5,
    "failureThreshold": 2,
    "emailCooldownMinutes": 15
  }
}
```

Pause during maintenance:

```json
{
  "tool": "update_monitor",
  "arguments": {
    "monitorId": "<monitor-id>",
    "status": "paused"
  }
}
```

Resume after verification:

```json
{
  "tool": "update_monitor",
  "arguments": {
    "monitorId": "<monitor-id>",
    "status": "pending"
  }
}
```

Inspect probe evidence:

```json
{
  "tool": "get_monitor_probes",
  "arguments": {
    "monitorId": "<monitor-id>",
    "day": "2026-09-14"
  }
}
```

## REST fallback

Use REST only with Ultra API access:

```bash
curl --fail-with-body https://api.crontap.com/v1/monitor \
  -X POST \
````
