# cro-optimization

Reads a landing page, by link or as HTML/CSS, and returns a conversion audit: what blocks signups, what to fix first.

## What it does

Give it a page and it catalogues what is actually on the screen: headlines, buttons, forms, trust blocks, the order of sections. Those findings get checked against 13 CRO principles in `references/cro_principles.md` and against real pages collected in `references/landing_page_patterns.md`, which includes ClickUp, Notion, Stripe and Apple. A third file, `references/element_audit_framework.md`, sets the order for auditing CTAs, forms and visual hierarchy.

All three references get read before any analysis starts, so a partial copy of the skill stalls with no findings. Put `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` in the project root and the page gets judged with your industry, audience, product type and competitors in view. Live links come in through WebFetch. Pasted HTML and CSS are read as they stand, without rendered styling or images, so contrast and layout calls on that material stay limited.

The result is a written report: summary, what already works, critical issues, high-impact fixes, section-by-section notes, quick wins, a test order and a comparison with benchmark pages. Copy changes come with a before/after pair and a High, Medium or Low priority.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill cro-optimization -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cro-optimization/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill cro-optimization -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill cro-optimization -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ognjengt/founder-skills cro-optimization
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill cro-optimization -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills --path skills/cro-optimization
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill cro-optimization -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cro-optimization/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find out from a URL why a landing page loses signups
- rewrite the H1 and the button copy with before/after pairs
- audit a signup form for field count, labels and order
- rank A/B tests by expected impact on conversion
- match a page's section order to patterns from ClickUp, Notion and Stripe

## Example prompts
- Audit my landing page, HTML and CSS are pasted below, what stops people from requesting a demo?
- Run a CRO pass on the pricing page and give me before/after copy for the headline
- Check the signup form and the primary button, rank the fixes by priority

name: cro-optimization
description: Analyzes landing pages and provides detailed CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) recommendations. # CRO Optimization

## Purpose
Analyze a landing page and deliver a comprehensive CRO audit with specific, actionable recommendations to maximize conversions.

---

## Execution Logic

**Check $ARGUMENTS first to determine execution mode:**

### If $ARGUMENTS is empty or not provided:
Respond with:
"cro-optimization loaded, provide your landing page URL or paste your HTML/CSS code"

Then wait for the user to provide their landing page in the next message.

### If $ARGUMENTS contains content:
Proceed immediately to Task Execution (skip the "loaded" message).

---

## Task Execution

When landing page is available (either from initial $ARGUMENTS or follow-up message):

### 1. MANDATORY: Read Reference Files FIRST
**BLOCKING REQUIREMENT — DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP**

Before doing ANYTHING else, you MUST use the Read tool to read ALL three reference files:

```
Read: ./references/cro_principles.md
Read: ./references/landing_page_patterns.md
Read: ./references/element_audit_framework.md
```

**What you will find:**
- **cro_principles.md**: 13 core CRO principles with detection criteria and fix patterns
- **landing_page_patterns.md**: Real patterns from high-converting pages (ClickUp, Notion, Stripe, Apple, etc.) organized by category
- **element_audit_framework.md**: Systematic framework for auditing HTML elements, CTAs, forms, and visual hierarchy

**DO NOT PROCEED** to Step 2 until you have read all files and have the principles, patterns, and audit framework loaded in context.

### 2. Check for Business Context
Check if `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` exists in the project root.
- **If it exists:** Read it and use the business context to personalize recommendations (industry, target audience, product type, competitors).
- **If it doesn't exist:** Proceed with analysis based on page content alone.

### 3. Fetch and Extract Landing Page
If user provided a URL:
- Use WebFetch to retrieve the landing page content
- Extract and catalog key elements (see Element Extraction below)

If user provided HTML/CSS directly:
- Analyze the provided code directly
