## What it does

The skill builds on `bulk-operations`: JSONL piping, batch reads, pagination and the dry-run → digest → confirm gate apply to every command here. Read `bulk-operations/SKILL.md` first. Search returns at most 100 rows per call, so a raw search silently drops every duplicate that crosses a page boundary.

Property names are listed, not guessed, with `hubspot properties list`. From there you get three jobs: finding incomplete records with filters like `!email` or `!phone AND !mobilephone`, reshaping values through `jq` into `objects update`, and merging duplicates with `hubspot objects merge`. On a merge the secondary record folds into the primary and is deleted, so run `--dry-run` first and re-pipe the same producer with `--digest` and `--confirm`.

The fourth part audits properties: counts per group, a list of enumeration fields, and option management through `properties options-*`. HubSpot-defined properties with read-only options reject `options-create`, `options-update` and `options-delete` before the API call. If a merge went the wrong way, restore the secondary from the recycle bin in the UI, and `hubspot history --since 1h` shows the audit trail.

## Requirements
- Works with: HubSpot

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --skill crm-data-quality -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/crm-data-quality/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --skill crm-data-quality -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --skill crm-data-quality -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install HubSpot/agent-cli-skills crm-data-quality
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --skill crm-data-quality -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --path crm-data-quality
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HubSpot/agent-cli-skills --skill crm-data-quality -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/HubSpot/agent-cli-skills/tree/HEAD/crm-data-quality/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find contacts missing an email or phone number
- collapse inconsistent company spellings into one value
- merge duplicate contacts that share an email
- check which properties exist and how they are grouped
- list the allowed options on an enumeration property

## Example prompts
- find contacts without a phone number and show their emails
- normalize company names to one value, dry-run first
- merge duplicate contacts by email, start with a dry-run

Read `bulk-operations/SKILL.md` first — JSONL piping, batch read, pagination, and dry-run/digest/confirm gating apply to every command below.

## Property discovery

Don't guess property names. List them:

```bash
hubspot properties list --type contacts --format table
hubspot properties list --type contacts | jq -c 'select(.type=="enumeration") | {name, label}'
```

Same for `--type companies`, `deals`, or any custom type (`hubspot objects types`).

## 1. Find incomplete records

`!name` = NOT_HAS_PROPERTY (missing or empty). Bare `name` = HAS_PROPERTY. Within one `--filter`, chain with `AND`; multiple `--filter` flags are OR'd.

```bash
hubspot objects search --type contacts --filter "!email" --properties firstname,lastname,company
hubspot objects search --type contacts --filter "!phone AND !mobilephone" --properties email
hubspot objects search --type contacts --filter "!hubspot_owner_id" --properties email,lifecyclestage
```

For >100 results, use the pagination loop from `bulk-operations`.

## 2. Normalize field values

Search → reshape with `jq` → pipe into `update`. `objects update` is irreversible, so `--dry-run` first — the dry-run → digest → confirm flow is required at every row count, not just >100 (`bulk-operations` covers it end to end). Reshape patterns: `bulk-operations/resources/json-patterns.md`.

```bash
# Collapse spellings into one canonical value — 1. preview
hubspot objects search --type contacts --filter "company~acme" \
| jq -c '{id, properties:{company:"Acme Corporation"}}' \
| hubspot objects update --type contacts --dry-run \
| tee /tmp/normalize.preview.jsonl
# 2. lift the digest + confirm (present at every row count)
digest=$(jq -r 'select(.digest != null) | .digest' /tmp/normalize.preview.jsonl)
confirm=$(jq -r 'select(.digest != null) | .target.id' /tmp/normalize.preview.jsonl)   # single: record ID; batch of 2+: row count
# 3. execute — re-pipe the SAME inputs plus --digest/--confirm
hubspot objects search --type contacts --filter "company~acme" \
| jq -c '{id, properties:{company:"Acme Corporation"}}' \
````
