## What it does

The skill splits website work into ten phases and runs them in order: message, design, conversion, then a brutal review. At each phase the agent asks questions and waits — it will not design before the message is settled. It orchestrates ten other skills: `one-page-marketing`, `storybrand-messaging`, `made-to-stick`, `top-design`, `web-typography`, `refactoring-ui`, `ux-heuristics`, `cro-methodology`, `scorecard-marketing` and `steve-jobs-design-review`.

Decisions and artifacts land in the project's `docs/` folder: `POSITIONING.md`, `WEBSITE.md`, `CREATE-WEBSITE-PLAN.md` and others. That makes the journey resumable — on a new session the agent reads the tracker first and asks which phase to enter. Files in `docs/` are uppercase, and existing ones get extended rather than overwritten.

If a phase's skill is missing, the agent offers `npx skills add wondelai/skills/<slug> --global` or runs the phase from its short brief. Phases marked GATE can be deferred, never skipped. One rule stands out: every scarcity claim, testimonial and guarantee on the site has to be true, so when a tactic needs invented evidence it gets swapped for one you can back up.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wondelai/skills --skill create-website -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/create-website/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/create-website/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wondelai/skills --skill create-website -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/create-website/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wondelai/skills --skill create-website -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/create-website/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wondelai/skills create-website
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/create-website/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wondelai/skills --skill create-website -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wondelai/skills --path create-website
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/create-website/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wondelai/skills --skill create-website -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wondelai/skills/tree/HEAD/create-website/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- start a landing page from scratch and finish it
- settle the message before drawing any layout
- keep positioning and copy in one place
- resume website work in a later session
- audit a page for conversion before launch

## Example prompts
- Build me a landing page for my SaaS from scratch — start with positioning
- Let's continue the site: read `docs/CREATE-WEBSITE-PLAN.md` and tell me which phase we're in
- Run phase 8 and work out why visitors don't convert

Orchestrates ten skills phase by phase - one-page-marketing, storybrand-messaging, made-to-stick, top-design, web-typography, refactoring-ui, ux-heuristics, cro-methodology, scorecard-marketing, steve-jobs-design-review - asking the user questions at every decision point and recording results in the project docs/ folder (POSITIONING.md, WEBSITE.md, CREATE-WEBSITE-PLAN.md) so the journey resumes across sessions. Use when the user wants to build a new website or landing page from scratch, turn a validated idea into a page that converts, or says ''build me a landing page for my SaaS''. Site already exists: use improve-website site-wide, conversion-optimization for one flow, or grow-website for traffic; building a software product, not a marketing site: create-app; no positioning yet: create-business first, or the positioning phase here. For one framework in isolation, invoke that skill directly.'

# Create a Website

A blank page becomes a live, high-converting website through ten phases run in one dependency-respecting order: message, then design, then conversion, then a brutal review. This journey is interactive — the agent asks before every decision and never designs before the message is settled — and resumable, because every decision and artifact lives in the project's `docs/` folder. You drive the phases; the constituent skills carry the method.

## Core Principle

**Message before design, design before conversion — in that order; looks-fine is the floor, not the goal.** A visitor decides in five seconds whether to stay, and that decision rides on whether they instantly understand what you do and why it matters to *them* — so clarity comes first and design serves it. This skill sequences the phases, asks the questions, and records the decisions; the constituent skills carry the frameworks. Invoke them rather than improvising their method.

## Journey Map

| Phase | Skill | Question it answers | Artifact |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | one-page-marketing | Who is this for, and what is the site's one job? | Creates docs/MARKETING.md; extends docs/CUSTOMER.md |
| 2 | storybrand-messaging | What do we say, with the customer as hero? | Creates docs/POSITIONING.md, docs/WEBSITE.md |
| 3 | made-to-stick | How do we make the message memorable? | Extends docs/POSITIONING.md, docs/WEBSITE.md |
| 4 | top-design | What makes this page unforgettable to look at? | Creates docs/DESIGN.md |
