## What it does

The skill scaffolds complete AEM components for Maven projects containing `core` and `ui.apps` modules. It produces HTL templates, authoring dialogs, Sling Models, client libraries, and unit tests adhering to Adobe Experience League standards for AEM Cloud Service and AEM 6.5. It also supports extending standard Core Components and existing project components through Sling Resource Merger patterns.

When given a Figma design URL, the skill uses the `plugin-figma-figma` MCP server and `get_design_context` to translate layouts into HTL, CSS, and JavaScript. It strictly enforces a no-hallucination policy, creating only the authoring fields explicitly requested by the user.

Before running, the skill requires a configured `.aem-skills-config.yaml` file in the project root with `configured: true`. If the file is missing or unconfigured, the skill stops immediately without inspecting the repository, because guessing values leads to broken package paths.

## Requirements
- Works with: Figma

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill create-component -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/create-component/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/create-component/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill create-component -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/create-component/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill create-component -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/create-component/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install adobe/skills create-component
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/create-component/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill create-component -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/adobe/skills --path plugins/aem/cloud-service/skills/create-component
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/create-component/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill create-component -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/adobe/skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/aem/cloud-service/skills/create-component/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold complete AEM components with dialogs, HTL, and Sling Models
- extend standard AEM Core Components with custom fields
- convert Figma designs into HTL templates, CSS, and JavaScript
- generate unit tests and clientlibs for newly created components

## Example prompts
- Create an AEM hero banner component with title, image, and CTA button
- Extend the teaser Core Component to add a custom subtitle field and hide the link tab
- Generate an accordion component from this Figma design

  Creates complete AEM components with dialog, HTL template, Sling Model, unit tests, and clientlibs.
  Supports extending Core Components and project components. When a Figma design URL is provided,
  fetches the design via Figma MCP (get_design_context) and translates it into pixel-perfect HTL, CSS,
  and JS. Follows Adobe Experience League best practices for AEM Cloud Service and 6.5.
  Use this skill whenever the user mentions creating, building, generating, or scaffolding an AEM
  component, or mentions component types like teaser, card, hero, banner, accordion, tabs, carousel,
  list, navigation, breadcrumb, or any custom AEM component. Also trigger when the user wants to
  extend a Core Component, create a component dialog, add a Sling Model, or convert a Figma design
  into an AEM component.
compatibility: Requires AEM as a Cloud Service or AEM 6.5. Maven project structure with core, ui.apps modules. Figma design integration requires the `plugin-figma-figma` MCP server to be enabled in the IDE.

# AEM Component Creation Skill

Creates complete AEM components following Adobe best practices.

## Configuration Gate Check — Do This First

> This configuration check needs to happen first because without it, the skill will use incorrect project paths and package names, causing every generated file to be wrong.

**First tool call**: Read `.aem-skills-config.yaml` in the **project root** (same level as `pom.xml`).

**Check**: Does the file exist and does it have `configured: true`?

| Status | Action |
| --- | --- |
| File missing or configured: false | Stop and display the error message below. Do not explore the codebase or proceed — the config values are needed for correct file paths and naming. Wait for the user to configure. |
| configured: true | Read project, package, and group values from the YAML file. Proceed with component creation. |

### If NOT configured, Display This Message and Stop:

```
Project configuration required!
Before creating components, configure your project settings in:
`.aem-skills-config.yaml` (in your project root, same level as pom.xml)
Open the file and update:
- project: Your AEM project name (e.g., 'mysite', 'wknd')
- package: Your Java package (e.g., 'com.mysite.core')
- group: Your component group (e.g., 'MySite Components')
- configured: true
After updating, ask me to create the component again.
```

### Why you should not explore the codebase when unconfigured:

Doing any of the following before configuration is set will lead to incorrect assumptions and wasted effort:
