## What it does

This skill talks to the GitBook REST API with `curl` and skips the CLI entirely. The reviewer flow has four stages: discover the change requests, understand what changed, leave a comment, decide. Discovery can be scoped to one space, a whole org, or filtered by who opened the CR. On a single space the `status` parameter is effectively required — leave it out and you get an empty list instead of everything.

A bash helper called `gbapi` loads `GITBOOK_TOKEN` from the repo-root `.env` and sends Bearer requests to `https://api.gitbook.com/v1`. Responses are JSON, and the skill tells you to pipe them through `jq` and read whole objects. Hand-parsing fields is how you bind the wrong title to the wrong id and then run every later call against the wrong space. The token comes from your GitBook account; printing it or writing it into a tracked file is off the table.

The `/changes` endpoint returns a structural summary — entries such as `page_created` and `page_edited` with the page title and path. For prose there is a separate diff: the markdown of a page inside the CR against its base version, compared client-side. Comments and verdicts are POST requests, and both go public and notify the author. Merging is not part of this skill, since it changes shared state.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --skill cr-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cr-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --skill cr-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --skill cr-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install GitbookIO/gitbook-skills cr-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --skill cr-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --path skills/cr-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GitbookIO/gitbook-skills --skill cr-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/GitbookIO/gitbook-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cr-review/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find open change requests waiting on your review
- see what actually changed in a CR before opening the diff
- post a comment on a change request from the terminal
- submit an approve or request-changes verdict
- filter change requests by space or by author

## Example prompts
- Show me the change requests in this space that are waiting on my review
- Summarize what changed in this change request
- Leave a comment on this CR and request changes

name: cr-review
metadata:
  version: "1.0"
description: Review GitBook change requests from Claude Code by calling the GitBook REST API directly with curl (no CLI) — the reviewer-side companion to cr-create (the authoring side over the same API). Discover the change requests that need review (filter by who opened them, by space, or across a whole org), get the GitBook app link to review the diff, summarize what actually changed in a CR, then leave comments and optionally submit a review verdict (approve / request changes). Use this whenever someone wants to review docs change requests over the raw API (curl/HTTP), asks "what CRs are open / waiting on me / opened by <person>", "show me the change requests in <space>/<org>", "summarize what changed in this CR", "review this change request", "leave a comment on a CR", or "approve / request changes on a CR". For the authoring side (create a CR, push content, request reviewers, fix comments) over the API, use cr-create instead.

# GitBook CR Review (direct API)

Review documentation change requests against a GitBook space or org entirely through the
**GitBook REST API** (`https://api.gitbook.com/v1`, hit with `curl`), so a reviewer never has
to leave Claude Code to find what needs review, understand what changed, and respond. This is
the **reviewer-side companion** to `cr-create` (the authoring side over the same API). The
reviewer flow is: **discover → understand → comment → decide**.

Because every step is a real HTTP call, never fake an output: if a call returns nothing, says
nothing changed, or errors, report exactly that.

## Auth and the `gbapi` helper

Every call is a Bearer-authenticated request to `https://api.gitbook.com/v1`. The token lives
in **`GITBOOK_TOKEN`** in the repo-root `.env` (create one at
https://app.gitbook.com/account/developer). **Never print the token; never write it to a
tracked file.** Define this helper once per session and use it for every call below — it fails
loudly on any non-2xx and prints the API's error body (`curl --fail-with-body`, curl ≥ 7.76 /
stock on current macOS):

```bash
set -a; [ -f .env ] && . ./.env; set +a          # load GITBOOK_TOKEN
gbapi() {                                          # gbapi METHOD /path [extra curl args…]
  local method="$1" apipath="$2"; shift 2   # NB: not `path` — in zsh that is tied to $PATH
  curl -sS --fail-with-body -X "$method" \
    "https://api.gitbook.com/v1${apipath}" \
    -H "Authorization: Bearer ${GITBOOK_TOKEN}" \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" "$@"
}
```

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the dd6d36743001f8ea tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
