## What it does

The skill ships ready-made frameworks for designing instruction, from the syllabus down to assessment. Inside there is a syllabus template with slots for objectives, prerequisites, a grading scale and a week-by-week schedule, plus a single-lesson template broken into minutes and a verb table based on Bloom's taxonomy for writing learning objectives.

A separate section covers engagement techniques: Think-Pair-Share, Jigsaw, case study, gallery walk, muddiest point, each with a duration and a note on when it fits. Assessment gets its own block — a table of assignment types (multiple choice, essay, project, portfolio, peer review) and a rubric template with criteria and four quality levels.

Everything here is text: templates and tables, not a document generator. You supply the subject matter, the topics and the criteria. The skill supplies the structure and the phrasing of objectives, and it takes facts about your subject from your prompt.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add travisjneuman/.claude --skill course-material-creator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/course-material-creator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add travisjneuman/.claude --skill course-material-creator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add travisjneuman/.claude --skill course-material-creator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install travisjneuman/.claude course-material-creator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add travisjneuman/.claude --skill course-material-creator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/travisjneuman/.claude --path skills/course-material-creator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add travisjneuman/.claude --skill course-material-creator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/travisjneuman/.claude/tree/HEAD/skills/course-material-creator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- draft a syllabus with objectives, schedule and grading scale
- lay out a single lesson by minutes with different activity types
- write learning objectives using Bloom's taxonomy verbs
- pick an assignment type that matches the skill you want to test
- sketch a rubric with criteria and quality levels

## Example prompts
- Build a syllabus for an 8-week Python course, two sessions a week, graded by a project and quizzes
- Write an 80-minute lesson plan on regression with guided and independent practice
- Give me five learning objectives for an intro marketing module and matching assignment types
