# cost-audit

Reads a Runpod account and shows where the money goes: idle Pods, always-on serverless workers, spend broken down by resource type. Read-only.

## What it does

The skill answers questions about a Runpod bill and changes nothing on its own. Every figure comes from `runpod-mcp` reads: hourly rates from the resource lists, spend-to-date from the billing calls. It should not invent or estimate a number, and a monthly projection is allowed only as `read_hourly × hours` with the hourly rate quoted.

There are four journeys, and only the one matching the prompt runs. Whole-account view: how many Pods, endpoints and network volumes exist, their state, current burn. Idle Pods: a table of name, GPU, hourly rate and monthly projection, sorted by projected cost. Serverless: an endpoint with min workers ≥ 1 keeps a worker that bills at zero traffic, which is not the same thing as an idle Pod. Then the breakdown by resource type and by individual resource.

The skill never mutates anything: a Pod stop goes to `pod-doctor`, dropping min-workers to 0 goes to `endpoint-ops`, and only after you approve it. One practical trap on serverless: on an account with many endpoints the default per-endpoint-per-bucket dump overflows the tool-result limit, the answer comes back truncated and the audit dead-ends. Pass `lastN: 1` or a `bucketSize` covering the whole window instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add runpod/runpod-plugins-official --skill cost-audit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cost-audit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add runpod/runpod-plugins-official --skill cost-audit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add runpod/runpod-plugins-official --skill cost-audit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install runpod/runpod-plugins-official cost-audit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add runpod/runpod-plugins-official --skill cost-audit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/runpod/runpod-plugins-official --path plugins/runpod/skills/cost-audit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add runpod/runpod-plugins-official --skill cost-audit -a opencode
```

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/runpod/runpod-plugins-official/tree/HEAD/plugins/runpod/skills/cost-audit/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find idle Pods and project their monthly cost
- explain why serverless bills with no traffic running
- break spend down by resource type and by resource
- name the single costliest resource on the account
- cross-check an all-zero breakdown against the live resource lists

## Example prompts
- show me where the money goes on my Runpod account
- which Pods are idle and what do they cost per month
- why is serverless billing when nothing is running

# Cost audit

You answer where the money goes on a Runpod account and how to stop a leak. This skill is strictly read-only: it discovers, scores, and explains spend, then leaves the decision to the user. It **never** stops, deletes, or reconfigures a resource on its own. Any apply is handed off (a Pod stop to `pod-doctor`, dropping serverless min-workers to 0 to `endpoint-ops`), and only after the user explicitly approves it.

Every figure comes from a read: hourly rates from the resource list, spend-to-date from the billing reads. Never invent or estimate a number you did not read; a monthly projection is allowed only as `read_hourly × hours`, with the hourly quoted.

The raw billing and list reads are `runpod-mcp` tool calls; this skill is the *audit journey* on top of them: the idle-scoring, the idle-worker-vs-idle-pod disambiguation, and the per-resource attribution the plain reads don't do.

## Required capabilities

Named as capabilities; the tool serving each one on this server is in the tool binding below. All are reads.

- List Pods with cost info, and inspect one Pod.
- List serverless endpoints and inspect one, for min/max workers config.
- List network volumes.
- Aggregate billing history, and per-resource billing (pods, serverless endpoints, Public Endpoints, network volumes, clusters).

## The four journeys

Read first, always. Match the prompt to one journey; do not run all four unasked.
