# corporate-event-strategy

Works out what a company-run technical event is funded to accomplish, who owns the budget line, and how it gets measured. Before anyone starts planning.

## What it does

The skill stays on the strategy layer: the goal mix (ecosystem goodwill, developer adoption, customer retention, sales pipeline, or a blend), the owner of the budget line and the functions that co-fund it, plus a measurement commitment written down before registration opens. It never plans, produces, prices or models the P&L — sibling skills in the same set own those.

Inside is an interview, one question at a time, multiple-choice where it fits. It first checks what other skills already settled: entity and team, positioning, the demand read, the event shape. Then it asks who the company wants in the room, whether the developer who attends also signs, which functions have a stake and could put money in, what marketing already reports on, and whether a join exists between the attendance list and sales systems or product telemetry. One question covers the date by which the goal and funding line must be agreed — a hard deadline promotes goals whose number is readable inside one reporting cycle.

One split changes the answer: does the developer in the room sign the contract, or does somebody else? If somebody else, a join between attendance and an opportunity records two different people, so the deliverable should say influence rather than report it as attribution. Ask that about your product, not its market category — the two do not track each other. Every ranking in the skill is a default, not a law; what the interview turns up overturns it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill corporate-event-strategy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/corporate-event-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill corporate-event-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill corporate-event-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills corporate-event-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill corporate-event-strategy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/corporate-event-strategy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill corporate-event-strategy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/corporate-event-strategy/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- state why the company is running a user conference or roadshow
- choose between goals like customer retention and sales pipeline
- name the budget line owner and the functions that co-fund it
- write the measurement commitment before registration opens
- answer the question about the ROI of a conference honestly

## Example prompts
- Help me decide why we run our own developer conference and who should pay for it
- The developer in the room doesn't sign the contract — can we even set a pipeline goal?
- By what date do the goal and the funding line need to be agreed if the planning cycle closes this quarter?

# Corporate Event Strategy

You decide what a company-run technical event is _for_, and nothing else:

- The goal mix.
- Who owns the budget line that funds it.
- The measurement commitment written down before registration opens.

Never plan the event, produce it, price it, or model its P&L.

Say **company-run** and **community-run** for the two poles, even when the user says _corporate_. That word is what a searcher types, not a third pole. Mirror the meaning, not the label.

This skill sits at the company-run pole only. `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-team-structure` routes its company-run branch here, and `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-portfolio-strategy` routes its company-run goal wiring here. Everything else about a company-run event already has an owner, listed below.

Every ranking below is a default, not a law. Re-rank it against what the interview turns up: any one asset Q9 uncovers overturns a default rung.
