## What it does

The skill routes agent skill development into four modes: creation, adaptation, updates, and testing. It picks the mode automatically from conversation signals or explicit subcommands. When extracting from chat or notes, it identifies triggers, core steps, and tooling choices, asking short clarifying questions if gaps appear.

Every new skill receives a structured `SKILL.md` file alongside a `references/` directory. Target repositories are read from `~/.config/makerskills/skillify/repos.yaml`, defaulting to `makerskills` if no configuration exists. For video inputs, it relies on `watch-video` to extract transcripts and key visual moments.

Recordings longer than 10 minutes signal an overloaded workflow. Splitting such tasks before drafting prevents bloated rule sets and keeps the skill focused.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill skillify -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skillify/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skillify/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill skillify -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skillify/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill skillify -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skillify/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coreyhaines31/makerskills skillify
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skillify/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill skillify -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills --path skills/skillify
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skillify/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill skillify -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills/tree/HEAD/skills/skillify/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a conversational workflow into a structured `SKILL.md`
- generate agent skill steps from a recorded screen share
- port an external skill with license and attribution checks
- test skill execution transcripts against an evaluation rubric
- update an existing skill with learnings from recent sessions

## Example prompts
- /skillify from-scratch deploy-helper
- /skillify from-dump
- /skillify test skills/review-pr

name: skillify
description: When you want to create, adapt, or update an Agent Skill (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other hosts) in one of your repos (listed in ~/.config/makerskills/skillify/repos.yaml; defaults to makerskills). Modes — CREATE (from chat, video, dump, or scratch) turns a workflow into a new skill. ADAPT ports an external skill with keep/adapt/add classification, license check, and attribution. UPDATE improves existing skills from learnings with cross-skill propagation, memory-vs-skill triage, and semver. TEST role-plays users through a skill and judges transcripts against a rubric. Checks new skills for host portability. Triggers on "/skillify," "create a skill," "make this a skill," "adapt this skill," "port this skill," "update X skill," "propagate this learning," "improve [skill]," "fix [skill]," "test this skill," "exercise [skill]." Part of the -ify trifecta — integrations and MCP servers go to toolify, schedules and loops to loopify.

# /skillify — Create, adapt, or update a skill

One skill, four modes. Routes automatically to the right one based on input signal.

Consolidates and replaces the prior `create-skill`, `adapt-skill`, and `update-skill` (all merged as of v0.2.0 for vocabulary-moat consistency with the `-ify` trifecta).

## Step 0 — Detect mode

Route by signal:

| Signal | Mode |
|---|---|
| Invoked mid-conversation with substantive recent workflow discussion | **CREATE / from-chat** (default) |
| `/skillify from-video <url>` OR `/skillify` + a video URL | **CREATE / from-video** |
| `/skillify from-dump` + pasted brief/transcript/notes | **CREATE / from-dump** |
| `/skillify from-scratch <name>` OR "make a new skill called X" with no context | **CREATE / from-scratch** |
| `/skillify <github-url>` OR "adapt this skill" / "port this skill" / "fork this skill" + external source | **ADAPT** |
| `/skillify <existing-skill> <change>` OR "update X skill" / "propagate this learning" | **UPDATE / targeted** |
| `/skillify update` (mid-conversation) | **UPDATE / from-chat** — scan recent chat for learnings |
| `/skillify usage <skill>` | **UPDATE / usage** — review recent runs, suggest improvements |
| `/skillify test <skill-or-path>` OR "test this skill" / "exercise X" / "dry-run X" | **TEST** — simulated use against a rubric |

If ambiguous, ask before proceeding. Never guess between CREATE and ADAPT if there's an external URL involved.

---

## Mode: CREATE

Build a new skill from chat / video / dump / scratch.

### Step 1 — Confirm the input source

| Sub-mode | What |
|---|---|
| **from-chat** (default) | Extract the skill from the workflow discussed in this conversation. Most common case. |
| **from-video** | User recorded a Loom / Zoom / screen-share. Calls `watch-video` in visual mode → transcript + key visual moments → SKILL.md. Best for visual/UI-heavy workflows. |
| **from-dump** | User pastes a brief, prior conversation transcript, exported chat, or notes. |
| **from-scratch** | Fresh idea with no source material — interactive Q&A. |
```
