# pm

Keeps a kanban board per business or project and sorts the backlog with the Eisenhower matrix. Useful when several boards compete for your attention.

## What it does

The skill gives every business its own board with five columns: Backlog, Ready, In Progress, Review/Blocked, Done/Archived. Eisenhower sits on top of it, deciding which backlog items reach Ready and which Ready card gets pulled next. Six modes cover the work: setup, triage, next, status, unblock, weekly.

No single tracker is assumed. Adapters are written for Notion, GitHub Projects, Plane, Linear, Obsidian and a manual mode. Notion needs `$NOTION_API_KEY`, Plane needs `$PLANE_API_KEY` plus a workspace slug, and GitHub Projects runs through an already authenticated `gh`. Your business list and tool mapping live in `${MAKERSKILLS_CONFIG:-$HOME/.config/makerskills}/pm/boards.md`; the `references/boards.md` file in the repo is a template, so don't write into it.

\`next` refuses to pull fresh work once WIP is exceeded: 3 cards in In Progress by default, and Review/Blocked has no cap but gets flagged past 5. Overloaded? Expect a nudge to finish something or push it to Review/Blocked first. Status and weekly output is written for async sharing — paste it into Slack, Notion or a partner DM.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub, Linear, Notion

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill pm -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pm/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pm/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill pm -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pm/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill pm -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pm/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coreyhaines31/makerskills pm
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pm/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill pm -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills --path skills/pm
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pm/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill pm -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills/tree/HEAD/skills/pm/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- sort a backlog with the Eisenhower matrix and pick what reaches Ready
- choose one task when several boards are in play
- produce a project status without a meeting
- work through the Review/Blocked column and see who to nudge
- plan next week across every board

## Example prompts
- /pm setup my-project
- /pm triage my-project
- /pm next

# /pm — Project management across the portfolio

Methodology-first project management. Kanban + Eisenhower + async. One board per business. Tool-agnostic via adapters.

## Mental model

Each business gets its own kanban with 5 columns:

```
Backlog  →  Ready  →  In Progress  →  Review/Blocked  →  Done/Archived
```

- **Backlog**: everything that *might* matter — not yet committed
- **Ready**: triaged, well-defined, can be picked up
- **In Progress**: actively being worked
- **Review/Blocked**: waiting on someone else, review, or external dependency
- **Done/Archived**: shipped or killed

**Eisenhower** sits on top of the board — used to triage Backlog → Ready (which items make the cut) and to pick next from Ready (which Ready item to pull).

```
                Urgent          Not Urgent
Important       Q1: Do          Q2: Schedule    ← Q2 is the high-leverage zone
Not Important   Q3: Delegate    Q4: Delete
```

**Async-first**: every status snapshot should read like a Loom you didn't have to record. Make work visible without requiring a meeting.

## Step 1 — Detect mode and target

Parse the invocation:

| Invocation | Mode | Target |
|---|---|---|
| `/pm setup [business]` | setup | the named business |
| `/pm triage [business]` | triage | the named business (or ask) |
| `/pm next [business]` | next | the named business |
| `/pm next` | next | **across all boards** (cross-portfolio) |
| `/pm status [business]` | status | the named business (or ask) |
| `/pm unblock [business]` | unblock | the named business (or ask) |
| `/pm weekly` | weekly | all boards (Friday pulse) |
| `/pm weekly [business]` | weekly | the named business |

## Step 2 — Load board config + personal overlay

Read `${MAKERSKILLS_CONFIG:-$HOME/.config/makerskills}/pm/boards.md` (personal — real business list + tool mapping per business). Falls back to `references/boards.md` in the repo if the local file doesn't exist yet — that's a template.
