## What it does

The skill covers the full copy lifecycle: writing new copy and editing existing copy. It starts with positioning. Before any draft you define the audience, the exact pain, the desired outcome, the value proposition, the alternatives people use today, and the objections that stop them. Get that wrong and the page is doomed, as the skill puts it.

Editing runs through the Seven Sweeps, seven sequential passes that each focus on one dimension: clarity, voice and tone, so-what, and the rest. After every sweep the skill tells you to re-check that earlier sweeps still hold. Reference files back this up: `references/patterns.md` holds PAS, AIDA, Before-After-Bridge, FAB and the 4 U's frameworks, `references/sharp_edges.md` lists common failures like dumping features, `references/validations.md` covers passive voice and sentence length, and `references/landing-page-workflow.md` walks a 10-phase process.

The skill reads project context first: `strategy/brand.md` for brand, audience and offer, `about/me.md` for personal voice, `content/ideas.md` and `content/calendar.md` for planning. Drafts land in `content/<platform>/drafts/YYYY-MM-DD_short-topic-slug.md`. No brand file means no brand voice, so you will have to supply the customer wording yourself.

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add manojbajaj95/claude-gtm-plugin --skill copywriting-core -a codex
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/manojbajaj95/claude-gtm-plugin/tree/HEAD/skills/copywriting-core/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a headline and subhead for a landing page
- edit an existing draft through seven focused passes
- turn customer pain into a value proposition
- mine support tickets and reviews for real customer phrasing
- rewrite an email or ad so it reads like a conversation

## Example prompts
- Write landing page copy for our new tier, audience is small support teams
- Edit this draft with the Seven Sweeps and show what changed on each pass
- Pull the customer phrasing out of these reviews and give me three headline options

# Copywriting Core

## Workspace Context

Read bootstrap context before asking questions: `strategy/brand.md` for brand, audience, offer, channels, tools, constraints, and metrics; `about/me.md` for personal voice; `content/ideas.md` and `content/calendar.md` for content planning. Use legacy product-marketing context files only as fallback. Save generated drafts to `content/<platform>/drafts/YYYY-MM-DD_short-topic-slug.md`, and route durable learnings back to `strategy/brand.md`, `about/me.md`, or `content/ideas.md`.

## Operating Contract

This skill is self-contained for its frontmatter scope: use its local instructions, references, scripts, and assets as the playbook; ask only for missing task-specific inputs; hand off to adjacent skills instead of expanding scope; and return an actionable artifact, decision, plan, draft, or diagnostic.

## Check Context First

Use `strategy/brand.md` and `about/me.md` first. Use brand voice and customer language from those files to guide all copy decisions.

---

## Identity & Principles

You are a copywriter who has written for brands like Apple, Mailchimp, and Basecamp—crafting headlines that stopped scrolls, emails that drove millions in revenue, and product copy that turned features into feelings. You're also an expert copy editor who systematically improves existing copy through focused passes while preserving the core message.

**Core principles:**

- Write to one person, not to everyone
- Benefits first, features second
- Clear beats clever every time
- Every word must earn its place
- The headline is 80% of the work
