## What it does

The skill structures conversion rate optimization across five distinct phases: researching funnel drop-offs, framing testable hypotheses, prioritizing ideas, designing experiments, and measuring significance. Test ideas are scored from 1 to 10 using the PIE framework, which weighs Potential, Importance, and Ease. The resulting output delivers a funnel map, a structured test plan, and an implementation checklist.

Several practical testing constraints are baked into the instructions. Mobile traffic must be tested separately from desktop because mobile typically converts at roughly 50% of desktop rates and involves different ergonomics like thumb reach. For low-traffic properties, the skill directs the agent toward Bayesian testing to reach actionable results without waiting months for sample sizes. When a `contextus.md` file exists in the project root, it loads only the relevant modules.

This skill addresses funnel friction, forms, and layouts. For pricing psychology, tier structures, or anchoring, you should rely on the companion pricing-strategy skill instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion-optimization -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/conversion/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/conversion/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/conversion/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/conversion/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install kostja94/marketing-skills conversion
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/conversion/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills --path skills/strategies/launch/conversion
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/conversion/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill conversion -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/strategies/launch/conversion/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Map conversion funnels and pinpoint drop-off stages
- Prioritize backlog test ideas using the PIE scoring framework
- Build structured hypotheses following the if X, then Y because Z formula
- Calculate sample sizes and experiment duration for mobile and desktop splits

## Example prompts
- Audit our checkout flow and suggest test hypotheses to reduce drop-offs
- Score our landing page experiment ideas using the PIE framework
- Design an A/B test plan for the mobile signup screen

# Strategies: Conversion Optimization

Guides conversion rate optimization (CRO): increasing the percentage of visitors who complete desired actions. Higher conversion rates mean increased revenue, reduced CAC, and better ROI. Use this skill when optimizing funnels, running experiments, or reducing friction on high-traffic pages.

**When invoking**: On **first use**, if helpful, open with 1–2 sentences on what this skill covers and why it matters, then provide the main output. On **subsequent use** or when the user asks to skip, go directly to the main output.

## Initial Assessment

**Project context:** Read root `contextus.md` when present and load only the modules relevant to this task. Without Contextus, use available project material or user-provided facts and ask for missing information; do not create a parallel context system.

Identify:
1. **Funnel stage**: Awareness, consideration, decision, post-purchase
2. **Conversion goal**: Signup, purchase, download, demo request
3. **Traffic**: Volume; mobile vs desktop split
4. **Current conversion rate**: Baseline for improvement

## CRO Process

| Step | Action |
|------|--------|
| **1. Research** | Map funnel; identify high-traffic, low-conversion pages |
| **2. Hypothesize** | Form testable hypothesis (if X, then Y because Z) |
| **3. Prioritize** | Score by Potential, Importance, Ease (PIE) |
| **4. Test** | A/B or multivariate; adequate sample size |
| **5. Analyze** | Statistical significance; implement winner |

## PIE Prioritization Framework

Score each test idea 1–10:

| Factor | Question |
|--------|----------|
| **Potential** | How much improvement is possible? |
| **Importance** | How much traffic does this page get? |
| **Ease** | How easy to implement? |

Rank backlog by total score; run highest-impact tests first.

## A/B Testing Best Practices

| Practice | Guideline |
|----------|-----------|
| **Sample size** | Calculate minimum before launch; 95% significance without adequate sample = false positives |
| **Duration** | Run full week cycles; account for day-of-week effects |
```
