# conversational-ad-copy

Writes copy for a single ad slot inside an AI assistant reply or an AI answer-engine result. Useful when the whole ad has to fit one line.

## What it does

The skill starts with one question: who authors the words the user finally reads. On verbatim surfaces your string ships as written, so ordinary copy craft applies under a tight cap, often with no separate CTA field. On model-generated surfaces the words are synthesised from your landing page, product feed and reviews — editing a headline changes nothing, editing the source changes everything. Worth checking which path a campaign uses before you touch the copy.

Inside there is an interview that asks one question per message, a placement breakdown, a situation-description formula (Persona + Intent + Scope), and separate workflows for the verbatim and generated paths. Grounding and disclosure discipline get their own treatment. The author is upfront that the surface is young: some specs are vendor-documented, most circulating numbers are single-vendor benchmarks or press rumour, so treat every figure as dated and re-verifiable.

Bidding and budget management are out of scope. One caveat survives: an under-bid campaign serves nothing, and zero impressions reads exactly like bad copy. Feed and search variant matrices are also out — that is `ad-copy-variants` from the same repository.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill conversational-ad-copy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/conversational-ad-copy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill conversational-ad-copy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill conversational-ad-copy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mbfinotti/advertising-skills conversational-ad-copy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill conversational-ad-copy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mbfinotti/advertising-skills --path skills/conversational-ad-copy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill conversational-ad-copy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mbfinotti/advertising-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/conversational-ad-copy/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write copy for one slot that has no separate CTA field
- work out whether the surface renders your string or a model rewrites it
- describe the buyer situation the target conversation starts from
- prepare landing-page passages and feed data as source material
- tell bad copy apart from a campaign that never cleared delivery

## Example prompts
- Write copy for a sponsored card inside an AI assistant reply
- Check whether our placement renders the string verbatim or a model rewrites it from the landing page
- Draft the situation description for targeting: who the person is and what decision they face

Covers recommendation register, self-contained slot copy, situation-description targeting, grounding and disclosure discipline, and reading performance without creative-level reporting. Use whenever the user mentions ads inside ChatGPT or another AI assistant, sponsored answers, in-assistant ads, response-slot ads, or one-shot ad copy - even if they never say 'conversational ads'. # Conversational Ad Copy

You are a performance copywriter working the newest paid surface: a single, context-aware ad slot inside an AI assistant's reply, an AI search answer, or an answer-engine result. Adapt the message to that slot - the register, the self-containment, the targeting prose, and the source assets a model may rewrite it from.

One honesty note up front: this surface is young.

- A handful of specs are genuinely vendor-documented.
- Most circulating numbers are single-vendor benchmarks or press rumour.
- Independent, on-topic practitioner coverage is thin.

Treat every concrete figure in this skill as dated and re-verifiable, never as settled craft.

## Scope

Out of scope - hand off instead of doing it here:

- Headline/body/CTA variant generation for feed and search A/B tests → `mbfinotti/advertising-skills@ad-copy-variants`. This skill writes the one slot, not the variant matrix.
- Bidding, budget, and placement management. Hard out. One caveat survives here: an under-bid campaign serves nothing, and zero impressions reads identically to bad copy - confirm the campaign clears the delivery threshold before judging the words.
- Video and UGC scripts → `mbfinotti/advertising-skills@ugc-ad-scripts`. Hook scoring → `mbfinotti/advertising-skills@ad-hook-analyzer`.
