# convergence-loop

Turns a one-shot gate check into repeated FAIL→FIX rounds. The gate only counts as passed once a round needs no fixes at all.

## What it does

The skill wraps whatever checkpoint you point it at: a skill diagnostic, the `harvest-loop` cycle, an external asset audit, or a FAIL→FIX step your project defines. Setup comes first — gate name, pass condition, round ceiling (the skill description names 3 as the default) and who owns the fixes. Criteria stay frozen; loosen them mid-run and convergence proves nothing.

Each round runs the gate, lists what failed, applies fixes, then runs it again with those fixes in place. The skill asks you to track earlier fails across rounds and mark newly surfaced ones apart from the fix chain. One clean round with zero edits made in response to it is the only way out with a “truly passed” verdict. Should every round pass yet keep producing fixes, the fixes are generating the findings; the guidance is to shrink the design and rerun.

Still not converged after N rounds and the skill escalates, sorting the cause into vague criteria, a limit on your ability to fix, or a flawed gate. A flawed gate gets sent to `meta-prompt-builder` for redesign. Two rounds is the floor — a single clean pass is provisional only. The skill calls `Read`, `Write`, `Bash` and `Agent`, so a platform with a narrower tool set makes part of the loop manual.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill convergence-loop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/convergence-loop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/convergence-loop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill convergence-loop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/convergence-loop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill convergence-loop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/convergence-loop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install chrono-meta/forge-harness convergence-loop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/convergence-loop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill convergence-loop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness --path plugins/fh-commons/skills/convergence-loop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/convergence-loop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill convergence-loop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- check whether yesterday's fix introduced fresh failures
- pick a sensible round count before declaring a gate passed
- tell real convergence apart from the same failures repeating
- diagnose a gate that keeps failing after N rounds
- redesign a checkpoint whose fixes keep spawning findings

## Example prompts
- Run `/convergence-loop` on the skills diagnostic gate, all items green to pass, cap it at 4 rounds
- One pass doesn't convince me — loop the audit and show me the round table
- Not sure this check really passed: take it to convergence and tell me if it needs escalation

  A universal gate-reinforcement meta-skill that replaces the "single-pass = done" pattern with a converging loop of up to N rounds. Can be applied to any gate, checkpoint, or verification step. Only declares "truly passed" after FAIL→FIX→re-verify repeats until convergence (all items pass). Escalates to structural redesign if not converged within N rounds. Triggers on: "convergence-loop", "how many rounds do we need", "suspicious of single-pass", "not sure if it really passed", or equivalent phrasing.

# convergence-loop — Universal Convergence Loop Gate Reinforcement

> A single pass declaration is hard to trust. A fix exposes new FAILs, and round 2 catches what round 1 missed. convergence-loop assigns a "truly passed" criterion to any gate.

## Triggers

- `/convergence-loop`
- "convergence-loop", "how many rounds do we need", "not sure if it really passed"
- "suspicious of single-pass", "run until it passes", "keep verifying until clean"
- "single pass isn't enough", "need another round", "the fix might have introduced new issues"
- Auto-proposed: when the same artifact receives a FAIL verdict 2+ times in the same session (observable: 2nd FAIL on identical scope)

---

## Origin

Extracted from a recurring "single-pass gate is hard to trust" pattern observed across multiple hub workflows. The canonical reference is:
- `harvest-loop` extract→attack→synthesize cycle: pattern extraction → attack → synthesis → the repeating structure must run until convergence

When the same structure recurs across gates, it is a skill.

## Applicable Targets

| Applicable Gate | Example |
|---|---|
| Skill diagnostic gate | harness-doctor + apex-review |
| Session harvest loop | harvest-loop extract→attack→synthesize cycle |
| External asset audit | steel-quench Wave 1~N |
| Domain-specific quality gate | Plug in any project-defined FAIL→FIX checkpoint |
| Any FAIL→FIX repeating structure | User-defined gate |

---

## Pipeline Structure

```
[Input] gate name + pass criteria + max rounds N (default 3)
    │
    ▼
Round 1
    │  Execute gate
