## What it does

context7-auto-research brings library and framework reference material into Claude Code conversations as questions arise. It is intended for checking APIs and usage patterns for React, Next.js, Prisma, and other popular libraries against current documentation.

The skill is added with `npx`, then works through ordinary Claude Code requests. An API key is optional, while placing one in an environment variable provides higher request limits. That matters when the skill will query Context7 frequently.

## Requirements
- Works with: Context7

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill ai-research/context7-auto-research
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill context7-auto-research -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/context7-auto-research/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/context7-auto-research/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/context7-auto-research/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/context7-auto-research/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates context7-auto-research
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/context7-auto-research/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/context7-auto-research
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/context7-auto-research/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/context7-auto-research

## When to use it
- look up current React guidance
- check a Next.js API before coding
- verify Prisma usage against its documentation
- bring library references into a Claude Code chat

## Example prompts
- Check the current React documentation and show how to build this component.
- Find the current Next.js guidance for route handling before suggesting a change.
- Verify the Prisma migration command against the latest available reference.
