## What it does

The skill gives an agent guidance for content experiments, from shaping a hypothesis and choosing metrics to estimating sample size. It covers A/B tests, multivariate tests, and how to interpret statistical significance.

\`references/experiment-design.md` covers experiment design, metrics, sample size, and test selection. `references/statistical-foundations.md`, `references/cms-integration.md`, and `references/common-pitfalls.md` cover statistics, CMS-managed variants, and analysis mistakes. The pitfalls guide lists 17 mistakes, so conclusions deserve a check before acting on a test result.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sanity-io/agent-toolkit --skill content-experimentation-best-practices -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sanity-io/agent-toolkit --skill content-experimentation-best-practices -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sanity-io/agent-toolkit --skill content-experimentation-best-practices -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sanity-io/agent-toolkit content-experimentation-best-practices
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sanity-io/agent-toolkit --skill content-experimentation-best-practices -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sanity-io/agent-toolkit --path skills/content-experimentation-best-practices
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/content-experimentation-best-practices/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sanity-io/agent-toolkit --skill content-experimentation-best-practices -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- form a hypothesis for a content A/B test
- choose success metrics and sample size
- plan a multivariate experiment
- set up CMS-managed content variants
- check statistical conclusions for common mistakes

## Example prompts
- Plan a content A/B test and define its hypothesis and metrics.
- Help me choose a sample size and interpret statistical significance.
- Design CMS-managed content variants and flag analysis risks.

# Content Experimentation Best Practices

Principles and patterns for running effective content experiments to improve conversion rates, engagement, and user experience.

## When to Apply

Reference these guidelines when:
- Setting up A/B or multivariate testing infrastructure
- Designing experiments for content changes
- Analyzing and interpreting test results
- Building CMS integrations for experimentation
- Deciding what to test and how

## Core Concepts

### A/B Testing
Comparing two variants (A vs B) to determine which performs better.

### Multivariate Testing
Testing multiple variables simultaneously to find optimal combinations.

### Statistical Significance
The confidence level that results aren't due to random chance.

### Experimentation Culture
Making decisions based on data rather than opinions (HiPPO avoidance).

## References

Start with the reference that matches the current problem, such as design, statistics, CMS integration, or pitfalls. See `references/` for detailed guidance:
- `references/experiment-design.md` — Hypothesis framework, metrics, sample size, and what to test
- `references/statistical-foundations.md` — p-values, confidence intervals, power analysis, Bayesian methods
- `references/cms-integration.md` — CMS-managed variants, field-level variants, external platforms
- `references/common-pitfalls.md` — 17 common mistakes across statistics, design, execution, and interpretation
