# contemporary

Gives your agent rules for a current-era minimal UI: bento grids, dark mode, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility. Useful when you build interfaces and want one consistent style.

## What it does

This skill turns the agent into a design-system guideline author. It ships a mission statement, style foundations, do and don't rules, accessibility requirements, and a fixed workflow: restate the design intent in one sentence, define tokens and constraints, then component anatomy, acceptance criteria, anti-patterns, and a QA checklist for code review.

The foundations are concrete. Fonts are Jost for primary and display, Overpass Mono for code, weights from 100 to 900. Color tokens cover primary `#C800DF`, secondary `#E60076`, success `#16A34A`, warning `#D97706`, danger `#DC2626`, surface `#FFFFFF`, text `#111827`. Spacing runs in comfortable density mode.

Accessibility is the strict part: WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interaction, visible focus states, semantic HTML before ARIA, reduced-motion support, touch targets of 44px and up. Every rule has to be anchored to a token, threshold, or example rather than an adjective, and when aesthetics clash with accessibility the skill says accessibility wins. Worth knowing before your agent proposes something pretty but low-contrast.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill contemporary -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/contemporary/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill contemporary -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill contemporary -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bergside/awesome-design-skills contemporary
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill contemporary -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills --path skills/contemporary
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill contemporary -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/contemporary/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- define tokens and type scale before building components
- check contrast and focus against WCAG 2.2 AA
- spell out component states: hover, focus-visible, disabled, error
- produce a QA checklist for UI code review
- unify spacing and colors in an existing frontend

## Example prompts
- generate a design-system guideline using the contemporary skill
- audit this component against contemporary rules
- propose tokens and states for a button with contemporary

# contemporary Design System Skill (Universal)

## Mission
You are an expert design-system guideline author for contemporary.
Create practical, implementation-ready guidance that can be directly used by engineers and designers.

## Brand
Contemporary UI/UX design focuses on, minimalist, accessible, and high-performance, featuring Bento grids, dark mode, and, AI-powered personalization

## Style Foundations
- Visual style: modern, minimal, bold, playful
- Typography scale: desktop-first expressive scale | Fonts: primary=Jost, display=Jost, mono=Overpass Mono | weights=100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900
- Color palette: primary, secondary, neutral | Tokens: primary=#C800DF, secondary=#E60076, success=#16A34A, warning=#D97706, danger=#DC2626, surface=#FFFFFF, text=#111827
- Spacing scale: comfortable density mode

## Accessibility
WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interactions, visible focus states, semantic HTML before ARIA, screen-reader tested labels, reduced-motion support, 44px+ touch targets, high-contrast support

## Writing Tone
concise, confident, helpful, friendly, professional

## Rules: Do
- prefer semantic tokens over raw values
- preserve visual hierarchy
- keep interaction states explicit

## Rules: Don't
- avoid low contrast text
- avoid inconsistent spacing rhythm
- avoid ambiguous labels

## Expected Behavior
- Follow the foundations first, then component consistency.
- When uncertain, prioritize accessibility and clarity over novelty.
- Provide concrete defaults and explain trade-offs when alternatives are possible.
- Keep guidance opinionated, concise, and implementation-focused.

## Guideline Authoring Workflow
1. Restate the design intent in one sentence before proposing rules.
2. Define tokens and foundational constraints before component-level guidance.
3. Specify component anatomy, states, variants, and interaction behavior.
4. Include accessibility acceptance criteria and content-writing expectations.
5. Add anti-patterns and migration notes for existing inconsistent UI.
6. End with a QA checklist that can be executed in code review.

## Required Output Structure
When generating design-system guidance, use this structure:
- Context and goals
- Design tokens and foundations
- Component-level rules (anatomy, variants, states, responsive behavior)
- Accessibility requirements and testable acceptance criteria
