## What it does

The skill hands your agent ready-made commands for container registries. It covers Docker Hub, Amazon ECR, Azure Container Registry, Google Artifact Registry and GHCR, plus self-hosted registry and Harbor. The agent picks the block you need and fills in your values.

Login, tagging, push and pull, retention and cleanup policies, cross-account access, ACR geo-replication and image vulnerability scanning are all in there. ECR and ACR come with JSON policy examples, GCR with a `policy.json` that keys off age and tag state.

You need Docker or Podman plus the cloud CLI for your registry: `aws`, `az` or `gcloud`. Commands will fail without the right IAM permissions in that registry, so check them before the agent starts pushing. GHCR wants a PAT, Docker Hub a token.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill container-registries -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/container-registries/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/container-registries/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill container-registries -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/container-registries/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill container-registries -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/container-registries/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills container-registries
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/container-registries/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill container-registries -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path devops/containers/container-registries
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/container-registries/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill container-registries -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills/tree/HEAD/devops/containers/container-registries/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- push an image to ECR with scan on push enabled
- log in to a registry through a credential helper
- cap image storage with a lifecycle policy
- let another AWS account pull your image
- stand up a self-hosted registry with TLS

## Example prompts
- Create an ECR repository named myapp and turn on scan on push
- Set up Docker Hub login using the token in my environment variable
- Write a retention policy that keeps the last 10 images and expires the rest

# Container Registries

Store, manage, and distribute container images across cloud and self-hosted registries.

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:
- Pushing and pulling container images
- Configuring registry authentication
- Setting up image retention policies
- Managing private container registries
- Implementing image scanning and security

## Prerequisites

- Docker or Podman installed
- Cloud CLI tools (AWS CLI, az, gcloud) for respective registries
- Appropriate IAM permissions

## Docker Hub

### Authentication

```bash
# Login
docker login
# Login with token
echo "$DOCKER_TOKEN" | docker login -u username --password-stdin
```

### Push/Pull Images

```bash
# Tag image
docker tag myapp:latest username/myapp:latest
# Push
docker push username/myapp:latest
# Pull
docker pull username/myapp:latest
```

### Automated Builds

Configure in Docker Hub UI:
1. Connect GitHub/Bitbucket repository
2. Set build rules (branch → tag mapping)
3. Configure build context and Dockerfile path

## Amazon ECR

### Setup

```bash
# Create repository
aws ecr create-repository \
  --repository-name myapp \
  --image-scanning-configuration scanOnPush=true \
  --encryption-configuration encryptionType=AES256
# Get registry URI
REGISTRY=$(aws ecr describe-repositories \
  --repository-names myapp \
  --query 'repositories[0].repositoryUri' \
  --output text | cut -d'/' -f1)
```

### Authentication

```bash
# Login (Docker)
aws ecr get-login-password --region us-east-1 | \
  docker login --username AWS --password-stdin $REGISTRY
# Login with credential helper
# Add to ~/.docker/config.json:
{
  "credHelpers": {
    "123456789.dkr.ecr.us-east-1.amazonaws.com": "ecr-login"
  }
}
```

### Push/Pull

```bash
# Tag and push
docker tag myapp:latest $REGISTRY/myapp:latest
docker push $REGISTRY/myapp:latest
# Pull
docker pull $REGISTRY/myapp:latest
```

### Lifecycle Policy

```bash
# Create lifecycle policy
aws ecr put-lifecycle-policy \
  --repository-name myapp \
  --lifecycle-policy-text '{
    "rules": [
      {
        "rulePriority": 1,
        "description": "Keep last 10 images",
        "selection": {
          "tagStatus": "any",
          "countType": "imageCountMoreThan",
          "countNumber": 10
        },
        "action": {
          "type": "expire"
        }
      }
````
