## What it does

The skill loads when a task mentions Slack: post to a channel, notify a workspace, send a Slack message. The agent reaches for the generated `slack-client` package instead of hand-rolling `ic.http_request` calls to `slack.com/api`, so bearer auth, percent-encoding and JSON parsing come with the client.

Token choice is the first thing it walks through. A bot token (`xoxb-`) posts as the app, and the bot has to be invited to every channel with `/invite @YourApp` or Slack answers `not_in_channel`. A user token (`xoxp-`) posts as a named person, needs no invite, and every action is audited as that person. The skill tells you to report the choice back to the user and say where to get the token, because the app otherwise traps on first use.

The declared surface covers the `chat`, `conversations`, `users`, `files`, `reactions` and `pins` families, 10 API modules in all. The `chat.postMessage` request path is verified against live Slack; the success-response decode is not yet confirmed at runtime, so don't present Slack as a fully supported platform feature. One more thing worth knowing before you build: adding a scope later invalidates the token. Slack requires a reinstall and issues a new `xoxb-`, and the old one never gains the new scope.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add caffeinelabs/skills --skill connector-slack -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/connector-slack/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add caffeinelabs/skills --skill connector-slack -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add caffeinelabs/skills --skill connector-slack -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install caffeinelabs/skills connector-slack
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add caffeinelabs/skills --skill connector-slack -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/caffeinelabs/skills --path skills/connector-slack
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add caffeinelabs/skills --skill connector-slack -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/caffeinelabs/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/connector-slack/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- post a Slack message from a Caffeine backend
- notify a workspace when something happens in the app
- pick between a bot token and a user token
- resolve a channel name to its ID
- add a reaction or pin a message through the API

## Example prompts
- Post to the Slack channel when an order is created
- Set up Slack notifications using slack-client
- Invite the bot to the channel and verify chatPostMessage works

  EXPERIMENTAL, UNTESTED recipe for posting messages to a Slack workspace from a
  Caffeine canister via the `slack-client` mops package (Slack Web API). Use it
  when the user wants their app to send a message to a Slack channel — "post to
  Slack", "notify a channel", "send a Slack message", or equivalent. The client
  is a pre-release 0.1.0 drop (bot `xoxb-` or user `xoxp-` token): its request path is verified against the live
  Slack API (a real message posts), but the success-response decode is not yet
  runtime-confirmed, so treat it as a starting point and do NOT present Slack as
  a fully supported platform feature yet. Hand-rolling `ic.http_request` calls to `slack.com/api` is still the wrong
  move — prefer the generated client so bearer auth, percent-encoding, and JSON
  parsing come for free.

# Slack Connector (experimental)

Post messages to a Slack workspace from a Caffeine canister.

> ⚠️ **Experimental (`slack-client@0.1.0`).** **Verified against live Slack:** the
> request path — a real `chat.postMessage` posts (the earlier query-vs-form bug is
> resolved; POST params go in an `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` body).
> **Implemented in 0.1.0 but not yet exercised live:** the success-response decode
> (`{"ok":true,…}` → the success schema) and the `{"ok":false}` error-envelope
> routing (see *Known limitations* for what each does). The response side is
> therefore code-complete but unproven — `diagnostics` is on, so a decode failure
> surfaces the raw Slack body. Don't present Slack as a fully supported platform
> feature until **one live run confirms a decoded success reply**; that condition,
> not a version number, is the gate.

## Orchestrator routing notes

Load this skill when the user, spec, or a prior task mentions Slack, posting to a
channel, or notifying a Slack workspace. The generated `slack-client` package is
the preferred path; raw `ic.http_request` to `https://slack.com/api/*` is an
anti-pattern that re-implements auth, percent-encoding, and JSON parsing by hand.

Intent → capability mapping:

| User intent | Capability |
| --- | --- |
| Post a message to a Slack channel as the app | `slack-client` `chatPostMessage` with a bot token (`xoxb-`) |
| Post to Slack *as a named person* | `slack-client` `chatPostMessage` with a user token (`xoxp-`) |
```
