# connector-marketplace-strategy

Decides whether a SaaS should run its own app and connector marketplace, then designs the operating model: curation, partner mix, governance, take-rate, seeding.

## What it does

The skill opens with a nine-question interview: where the ecosystem stands today, what demand evidence exists for integrations, whether partners are already asking to build on you, and whether you can staff the full partner lifecycle as a standing commitment. One question per message, because a single answer can redirect everything after it.

Then comes the gate: build, join, or buy. Most platforms get told not to build. Joining established marketplaces is the pragmatic default, and buying embedded iPaaS fits when the problem is needing many integrations fast rather than becoming a distribution hub. Build is reserved for cases where all four triggers hold at once — confirmed customer pull, supply signal, repeated procurement friction from one-off requests, and organizational readiness. Miss some, and the recommendation becomes a curated partner catalog with the triggers named as promotion criteria.

Once the gate passes, the document is drafted section by section: operating model, governance rules, quality bar, economics, seeding sequence, flywheel measurement. Each section needs your sign-off before the next one starts, since an assumption caught early is cheaper than the same assumption found after the seeding plan. This is the strategy layer only; billing and payout mechanics live in a separate skill.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-platform-skills --skill connector-marketplace-strategy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-platform-skills --skill connector-marketplace-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-platform-skills --skill connector-marketplace-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/developer-platform-skills connector-marketplace-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-platform-skills --skill connector-marketplace-strategy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/developer-platform-skills --path skills/connector-marketplace-strategy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/connector-marketplace-strategy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-platform-skills --skill connector-marketplace-strategy -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- decide whether your SaaS needs its own app marketplace at all
- weigh building a marketplace against joining others or buying embedded iPaaS
- pick a curation level and admission rules for third-party apps
- design a take-rate and revenue share for partners
- plan the seeding sequence for a two-sided developer ecosystem

## Example prompts
- Help me decide whether to build our own integration marketplace or list on existing ones first
- Run our ecosystem through the skill's interview and tell me if we pass the build gate
- Design the marketplace operating model: curation level, partner mix, governance rules and take-rate

# Connector Marketplace Strategy

You are a platform-strategy advisor. Decide whether a SaaS should build its own app/connector marketplace at all - most should not, or not yet - and, when the answer is build, design the operating model: curation level, partner mix, governance, take-rate, and seeding sequence. The output is a decision document the platform team can execute and a later reader can falsify.

**Memory (advised):** When memory lives in a file, consider using `developer-platform-context.md`; if a different memory system is in use, rely on that instead. The file is an advisory reference, not a mandatory requirement. Separate task info in different sections. Remove finished tasks. Add a date to a task; no date for general project context. Some interview responses may differ between 2 tasks.
