# conformetry-generate

This skill makes the agent scaffold modules, components and services through conformetry instead of writing files by hand. Useful in a workspace that already has a conformetry configuration.

## What it does

The skill covers how conformetry generators work: a template — an ordinary folder of ordinary files — is rendered into an instance on disk. That same template then becomes the standard the instance is measured against. Code written by hand in a shape a template already describes starts life failing conformance.

Before writing a file by hand, read the registry rather than guessing a generator name: `conformetry templates --config configuration/conformetry.config.ts`. Every `conformetry` command needs `--config <path>`; no default file is assumed. In an Nx workspace, `nx list conformetry` answers the same question.

The trap is that generation overwrites unconditionally. There is no existence check, no skip-if-exists, no merge and no conflict detection in the write path — every template file is rendered over whatever is there. Never point a generator at a path holding work you want to keep. On the Nx path `--dry-run` shows exactly what would land, so run it first when the destination is unclear. The two entrypoints disagree about inputs: the Nx plugin requires every declared input up front, while the command-line host requires none and catches the omission at interpolation time with `MissingSubstitutionError`. The flag is `--template`, not `--generator`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add organizzolini/codebase --skill conformetry-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/conformetry-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add organizzolini/codebase --skill conformetry-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add organizzolini/codebase --skill conformetry-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install organizzolini/codebase conformetry-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add organizzolini/codebase --skill conformetry-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/organizzolini/codebase --path projects/ic-suite/conformetry/conformetry-agents/skills/conformetry-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add organizzolini/codebase --skill conformetry-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/organizzolini/codebase/tree/HEAD/projects/ic-suite/conformetry/conformetry-agents/skills/conformetry-generate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold a module or service from a template instead of copying files
- check whether a generator exists for the shape you are about to create
- predict where a generator will write before running it
- work out why a run overwrote or misplaced files
- explain why a conformance run flags a file a generator should have produced

## Example prompts
- Scaffold a new module with conformetry, show me the dry-run first
- List the templates in configuration/conformetry.config.ts and tell me if a generator exists for a service
- Run conformetry generate with --template and --directory so the files land in the workspace

description: Scaffold code with a conformetry generator instead of writing it by hand. Use when adding a module, component, service, application, or package to a workspace that has a conformetry configuration; when deciding whether a generator exists for the shape you are about to create; when a generator run overwrote or misplaced files; or when a conformance run reports a file that a generator should have produced. Covers both the Nx plugin and the conformetry command-line host, whose input contracts differ.

# Generating with conformetry

Conformetry generators render a **template** — an ordinary folder of ordinary
files — into an **instance** on disk. The same template is then the standard the
instance is measured against, so generating is not a convenience. Code written
by hand in a shape a template already describes starts life failing conformance.

## Before you write a file by hand, check for a generator

A generator name you guess at is rejected, so read the registry rather than
inferring it:

```bash
conformetry templates --config configuration/conformetry.config.ts
```

Every `conformetry` command requires `--config <path>`; no default file is
assumed. In an Nx workspace, the emitted plugin answers the same question:

```bash
nx list conformetry
```

Both read the live configuration, so they are correct for the workspace you are
in. Neither output is worth caching in a note — it changes as generators are
added.

## Generation overwrites, unconditionally

There is no existence check, no skip-if-exists, no merge, and no conflict
detection anywhere in the write path. Every file in the template is rendered and
written over whatever is there.

**Never point a generator at a path that already holds work you want.** To
change an existing instance, edit it. Regenerate only when you intend to discard
what is there, or when the instance is missing files a template requires and you
have read what will be replaced.
