# composition-design-review

A design review layer for OrkasVideoStudio COMPOSE previews and drafts. It reads the whole frame index, then opens the cover and risky frames at full size before any preview is shown.

## What it does

The skill runs after `stage-compose` has called `ovs snapshot`, and before the visual preview appears. The snapshot's `frame_paths` are the review set. Read every cell of the contact sheet, then open frame zero, QA-named frames and any cell where text, overlap or blankness looks doubtful. An unseen frame is not a clean frame.

When the preview is deliberately skipped, the same review runs against representative draft frames once `ovs draft` reports ok. This is a design QA layer. It is not a renderer, a line router or a general video checklist, and it adds no approval field or new user gate.

Findings carry one of three tags: `blocker`, `fix`, `polish`. Inspect the full set first, then return every blocker in one batch. Repairs go to the highest-level artifact that caused the problem: `composition-manifest.json#art_direction` when the thesis, tokens, layout budget or mapping is wrong, otherwise `index.html` for hierarchy, typography, motion and scene variation. One localized repair pass follows, then `ovs check` and a fresh `ovs snapshot`. Showing a revision that was only partly reviewed is not allowed. Forced all-caps English titles and captions count as a `fix` unless the user or an external brand supplied that casing.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --skill composition-design-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/composition-design-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/composition-design-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --skill composition-design-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/composition-design-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --skill composition-design-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/composition-design-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio composition-design-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/composition-design-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --skill composition-design-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --path packages/skills/composition-design-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/composition-design-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orkas-AI/Orkas-VideoStudio --skill composition-design-review -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- catch unreadable cover text before the preview is shown
- spot overlap and blank areas on QA-named frames
- tell a slideshow apart from promised motion graphics
- verify a reference kept its required preserve axis
- batch every blocker into a single repair pass

## Example prompts
- Run a design review on the COMPOSE snapshot and return all blockers in one list
- Open frame zero and the frames with doubtful text at full size
- We're skipping the preview — review the representative draft frames instead

# composition-design-review

Use this after `stage-compose` has run `ovs snapshot`, before showing the visual preview. The snapshot's `frame_paths` are the complete review set. Read every cell of the contact-sheet index, then open frame zero, QA-named frames and cells with doubtful text, overlap or blankness at full size. Never infer a clean unseen frame.

If the visual preview is intentionally skipped, run the same review against representative draft frames after an ok `ovs draft` report. This is a design QA layer, not a renderer, line router, or generic video craft checklist. It does not create a new user gate or approval field.

## Activation

- Run for every visual preview before that preview is shown.
- Use the post-draft fallback for design-sensitive COMPOSE work when no preview was shown, including brand, product, promo, launch, version-update, portfolio, or other design-led work.
- Also use the fallback when the draft shows a visible design risk that deterministic QA cannot judge, such as a weak first frame, flat hierarchy, repeated scene grammar, or motion that hides the message.

Do not run the post-draft fallback for ordinary edit/TTS/clip-selection work, simple caption cards, or generic "make it polished" wording without a visible design risk.

## Review Inputs

Read only the relevant artifacts:

- `project/composition/composition-manifest.json`
- Every composition-local image/video in `art_direction.references`, including its intent, roles, preserve/may-change boundary, target scenes, and spatial/temporal anchors
- Source frames extracted at the declared reference times and paired with their target snapshot/draft frames
- Every immutable path in the latest successful snapshot's `frame_paths`
- `project/composition/qa/check.json`
- For the fallback only: `project/render/draft-report.json` and representative draft frames
```
