## What it does

The skill walks through a competitor in seven layers: product, pricing, positioning, traction, reviews, content and team. Each layer comes with ready-made search and extraction commands, plus table templates — a feature matrix, a pricing comparison and a SWOT per player.

Under the hood it drives the `belt` CLI from inference.sh. That gives you search apps (`tavily/search-assistant`, `exa/search`), page extraction (`tavily/extract`), site screenshots (`infsh/agent-browser`) and a positioning map drawn in Python with matplotlib (`infsh/python-executor`). You need `belt login` before anything runs, and the CLI itself installs with `npx skills add belt-sh/cli`. An unauthenticated `belt` is the first thing to check when a command returns nothing.

For the positioning map the skill picks two axes, and it warns against obvious pairs: cheap versus expensive, old versus new. Those produce a chart that explains nothing. Simple versus complex, or SMB versus enterprise, actually say something. The feature matrix rules ask you to mark competitor strengths honestly — a teardown that only flatters your own product loses credibility with whoever reads it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add 101-skills/superpowers --skill competitor-teardown -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/competitor-teardown/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/competitor-teardown/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add 101-skills/superpowers --skill competitor-teardown -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/competitor-teardown/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add 101-skills/superpowers --skill competitor-teardown -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/competitor-teardown/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install 101-skills/superpowers competitor-teardown
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

## When to use it
- build a feature matrix across your product and three rivals
- compare pricing tiers and surface hidden fees like setup charges
- write a SWOT for every player in the market
- plot a positioning map on two meaningful axes
- capture screenshots of a competitor's homepage, pricing and signup

## Example prompts
- tear down CompetitorX: features, pricing, G2 reviews
- build a feature matrix for my product and competitors A, B, C
- make a SWOT and positioning map for an investor deck
