# company-cfo

The skill runs a monthly finance cycle for a company: pulls bank, payment processor, payroll and expense data, reconciles it and writes the snapshot leadership reads.

## What it does

The skill walks an agent through the phases of a monthly close. First it pulls raw data from four source categories: bank and cash accounts, payment processor, payroll and contractors, expense management. Everything lands in `${COMPANY_CFO_ROOT}/data/YYYY-MM/` and stays out of git. Then outflows get bucketed into your company's categories and cross-checked — total payroll debits in the bank against the payroll tool's API total, processor payouts against matching bank inflows.

End-of-month cash uses the transaction-sum method, not a walkback from the current balance. Sum every transaction on a cash account and check it against that account's current `available_balance`; if the two disagree, you are missing data or a pre-history baseline deposit exists. The skill also checks the usual traps: counting both a card autopay and the individual card charges, internal transfers between accounts, payout currency on contractor payments, and whether the expected number of partner distributions actually went out.

Before the first run you need a `${COMPANY_CFO_ROOT:-$HOME/code/company-cfo}/` directory with a `CLAUDE.md` or `AGENTS.md` config. That file holds your methodology, source map and categorization rules, so the skill does not invent its own. If a source is not wired yet, run `/toolify <source>` first. Modes are `monthly` (the default), `weekly`, `scenario <question>` and `pickup` to resume a prior run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill company-cfo -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/company-cfo/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill company-cfo -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill company-cfo -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coreyhaines31/makerskills company-cfo
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill company-cfo -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills --path skills/company-cfo
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill company-cfo -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills/tree/HEAD/skills/company-cfo/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull a month of bank, processor, payroll and expense data in one pass
- bucket outflows into categories and cross-check totals between sources
- compute end-of-month cash without the walkback error
- verify every partner distribution went out
- model a what-if cash scenario in the projector

## Example prompts
- /company-cfo monthly
- /company-cfo scenario what happens to runway if we hire two engineers
- /company-cfo pickup

description: Monthly CFO workflow for a company or agency — pull raw data from bank + payment processor + payroll + expense management, categorize and reconcile, compute end-of-month cash via transaction-sum method, update a scenario projector for forward forecasting, write the monthly snapshot report, surface decisions to leadership. Modes — monthly (default; the standing report), weekly (thin cash pulse), scenario (ad-hoc modeling in the projector), pickup (resume where the prior run left off). Anonymized team-scope sibling to personal-cfo (which handles personal household finances). Composes with company-brain (report gets stored + wiki-indexed there), toolify (wire company-specific data sources), loopify (schedule the monthly + weekly runs). Triggers on "/company-cfo," "/cfo," "monthly cash report," "do the CFO snapshot," "CFO monthly," "let's run CFO," "cash projection," "runway forecast," "monthly financials," "cash pulse."

# /company-cfo — Monthly company CFO workflow

The standing analysis leadership uses to make distribution / cuts / hiring / runway decisions. Primary cadence is **monthly** (run on the 1st for the closed prior month). Weekly and scenario modes cover the in-between.

Anonymized team-scope sibling to `personal-cfo` (households). Same discipline (transaction-sum EOM, categorization traps, scenario modeling) applied to company books.

## Step 0 — Load company config + prior run

Before starting work, read these in order:

1. **The config doc in `${COMPANY_CFO_ROOT:-$HOME/code/company-cfo}/`** (`CLAUDE.md` or `AGENTS.md`, whichever exists) — your company's specific methodology, data source map, categorization rules, distribution mechanics. **This is the source of truth for HOW your company computes things.** Don't invent your own methodology.
2. **The most recent report** in `${COMPANY_CFO_ROOT}/reports/monthly/` — last month's snapshot. Tells you what leadership decided + what was open.
3. **The most recent `*-followup.md`** in that folder (if one exists) — supplementary decisions, scenario analysis.
4. **Any relevant memory notes** in your agent's memory, or `${MAKERSKILLS_MEMORY:-${MAKERSKILLS_CONFIG:-$HOME/.config/makerskills}/memory}/` if it has none — running context: known anomalies, leadership constraints, current churn state.
```
