## What it does

The skill structures repetitive workflows into markdown files placed in `.claude/commands/` or `~/.claude/commands/`. It inspects your git environment first to pick between project-scoped and user-wide storage.

During the prompt exchange, it collects arguments, steps, and tool boundaries, enforcing kebab-case file names. Built-in reference documents supply archetypes for iterative test fixing, task delegation, and direct script runs.

Running this outside a git workspace routes the command to your home directory by default. Once saved, the new shortcut is ready to trigger via its slash identifier.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/command-creator
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill command-creator -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/command-creator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/command-creator/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/command-creator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/command-creator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates command-creator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/command-creator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/development/command-creator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/command-creator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/development/command-creator

## When to use it
- convert repeated prompt steps into a persistent slash shortcut
- structure positional and optional parameters for custom actions
- separate local repository actions from machine-wide user workflows
- write step-by-step guidance tailored for autonomous subagents

## Example prompts
- Turn my test and build workflow into a slash command
- Create a global command that runs linter checks across files
- Build a project command that takes a branch name argument
