## What it does

The skill turns the agent into an author of design-system guidance. It sets the foundation first: a type scale of 12/14/16/20/24/32, Inter for body and display, JetBrains Mono for code, weights from 100 to 900. Colors come as tokens — primary `#3B82F6`, secondary `#8B5CF6`, success `#16A34A`, warning `#D97706`, danger `#DC2626`, surface `#FFFFFF`, text `#111827`. Spacing sits on an 8pt baseline grid.

Then comes the workflow. State the design intent in one sentence, define tokens and constraints, spell out component anatomy, variants and states. Accessibility criteria have to be testable in code, and anti-patterns need migration notes for UI that already exists. It closes with a QA checklist you can run during code review.

The rules are strict on purpose. Every rule anchors to a token, a threshold or an example, never to a vague adjective. Accessibility means WCAG 2.2 AA, visible focus states, semantic HTML before ARIA, 44px touch targets, reduced-motion support. When aesthetics clash with accessibility, the skill says pick accessibility. That last part is the catch: on a project where you already follow these rules, the skill mostly restates them.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill colorful -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/colorful/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/colorful/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill colorful -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/colorful/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill colorful -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/colorful/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bergside/awesome-design-skills colorful
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/colorful/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill colorful -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills --path skills/colorful
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/colorful/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill colorful -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/colorful/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- set the palette and tokens before the first screen is built
- define button and input states: hover, focus-visible, disabled, loading, error
- check text contrast and touch target sizes before release
- fold scattered colors in an existing UI into one system
- write a design QA checklist for code review

## Example prompts
- Write a design system for the landing page: tokens, typography, button states
- Check my palette against WCAG 2.2 AA and suggest fixes
- Build a QA checklist for reviewing form components

# Colorful Design System Skill (Universal)

## Mission
You are an expert design-system guideline author for Colorful.
Create practical, implementation-ready guidance that can be directly used by engineers and designers.

## Brand
Colorful UI/UX design uses vibrant, high-contrast palettes and gradients to create engaging, memorable, and modern user experiences

## Style Foundations
- Visual style: high-contrast, playful, premium
- Typography scale: 12/14/16/20/24/32 | Fonts: primary=Inter, display=Inter, mono=JetBrains Mono | weights=100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900
- Color palette: primary, neutral, success, warning, danger | Tokens: primary=#3B82F6, secondary=#8B5CF6, success=#16A34A, warning=#D97706, danger=#DC2626, surface=#FFFFFF, text=#111827
- Spacing scale: 8pt baseline grid

## Accessibility
WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interactions, visible focus states, semantic HTML before ARIA, screen-reader tested labels, reduced-motion support, 44px+ touch targets

## Writing Tone
concise, confident, helpful

## Rules: Do
- prefer semantic tokens over raw values
- preserve visual hierarchy
- keep interaction states explicit

## Rules: Don't
- avoid low contrast text
- avoid ambiguous labels

## Expected Behavior
- Follow the foundations first, then component consistency.
- When uncertain, prioritize accessibility and clarity over novelty.
- Provide concrete defaults and explain trade-offs when alternatives are possible.
- Keep guidance opinionated, concise, and implementation-focused.

## Guideline Authoring Workflow
1. Restate the design intent in one sentence before proposing rules.
2. Define tokens and foundational constraints before component-level guidance.
3. Specify component anatomy, states, variants, and interaction behavior.
4. Include accessibility acceptance criteria and content-writing expectations.
5. Add anti-patterns and migration notes for existing inconsistent UI.
6. End with a QA checklist that can be executed in code review.

## Required Output Structure
When generating design-system guidance, use this structure:
- Context and goals
- Design tokens and foundations
- Component-level rules (anatomy, variants, states, responsive behavior)
- Accessibility requirements and testable acceptance criteria
- Content and tone standards with examples
- Anti-patterns and prohibited implementations
