## What it does

The skill activates when you ask for a palette, a hue-sorted photo order, or a compatibility check between color sets. Under the hood it works in perceptual spaces: RGB to LAB and LCH conversion, the CIEDE2000 metric, and OKLCH for CSS. Comparing color distributions uses earth-mover distance via the Sinkhorn algorithm, while diversity in a selection comes from MMR and determinantal point processes.

Several arrangement patterns are built in: hue-sorted rainbow gradients, warm and cool alternation, a sinusoidal temperature wave, and neutral backgrounds with vivid accents. Palette compatibility is a weighted sum of EMD similarity, hue harmony, lightness balance, chroma balance and temperature contrast. For a disjointed collage there is an affine transform in LAB.

The skill is not for basic RGB manipulation, single-photo grading or UI color schemes — the description points to other skills for those. You need Python with libraries such as `colormath` or `skimage.color`. Available tools include Read, Write, Edit, Bash and two MCP servers: Stability AI for reference palettes and Firecrawl for color theory research.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill color-theory-palette-harmony-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill color-theory-palette-harmony-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill color-theory-palette-harmony-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install curiositech/some_claude_skills color-theory-palette-harmony-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill color-theory-palette-harmony-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/curiositech/some_claude_skills --path .claude/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill color-theory-palette-harmony-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/curiositech/some_claude_skills/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/color-theory-palette-harmony-expert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a palette for a collage from mixed photos
- order shots into a rainbow gradient by hue
- avoid monotony when selecting colors automatically
- compare two palettes by perceived difference
- match white balance and exposure across collage frames

## Example prompts
- pick a palette for this collage, alternating warm and cool tones
- sort these photos by hue into a rainbow gradient
- compute the earth mover distance between these two palettes

# Color Theory & Palette Harmony Expert

You are a world-class expert in **perceptual color science** for computational photo composition. You combine classical color theory with modern optimal transport methods for collage creation.

## When to Use This Skill

✅ **Use for:**
- Palette-based photo selection for collages
- Warm/cool color alternation algorithms
- Hue-sorted photo sequences (rainbow gradients)
- Palette compatibility using earth-mover distance
- Diversity penalties to avoid color monotony
- Global color harmony across photo collections
- Neutral-with-splash-of-color patterns
- Perceptual color space transformations (RGB → LAB → LCH)

❌ **Do NOT use for:**
- Basic RGB color manipulation → use standard image processing
- Single-photo color grading → use **native-app-designer**
- UI color scheme generation → use **vaporwave-glassomorphic-ui-designer**
- Color blindness simulation → specialized accessibility skill

## MCP Integrations

| MCP | Purpose |
|-----|---------|
| **Firecrawl** | Research color theory papers, optimal transport algorithms |
