# coingecko

This skill hands your agent CoinGecko spot prices, OHLC candles and market stats. Useful when you need a live coin price or a quick read on the market.

## What it does

It runs in script mode: the agent reads `SKILL.md`, then calls functions from `exports.py` inside a `bash` block. `coin_price` covers current and historical prices, `coin_ohlc` returns candles, `coin_chart` gives a series of prices alongside market cap and volume. A second group handles discovery — trending coins over the last day, top gainers and losers, recently listed coins, categories and derivatives.

Market-wide numbers come from `cg_global` (total market cap, volume, dominance) and `cg_global_defi` for DeFi stats. If a token is not in the id list, `cg_token_price` fetches its price by contract address on a given platform. Coin ids look like `bitcoin` or `ethereum`; when you are unsure, run `cg_search` first.

The skill needs `COINGECKO_API_KEY` in your environment — requests fail without it. Its own notes warn against reaching for Coinglass tools instead: the names look alike, the systems do not. Same goes for answering from model memory, since prices go stale fast. Call the function.
