## What it does

The skill walks the folder tree recursively, detects the framework and architecture style, and locates main files, routes, APIs and CLI commands. Then it traces a request through the layers — controllers, services, models — and explains what each directory is for.

The result is an ARCHITECTURE.md with a fixed shape: a system and stack summary, a top-level Mermaid graph, the project tree, a breakdown of core modules, and a table mapping files to their purpose and what to change in them. A how-to section covers common jobs: add an API endpoint, add a Prisma model, add a React component, modify authentication. The template examples assume Next.js, Prisma and TypeScript, so on another stack you will rewrite those sections.

The skill reads files and does not run your code, so an open project is enough. Install it with `npx skills add` and the flag for your platform.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill codebase-summarizer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/codebase-summarizer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/codebase-summarizer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill codebase-summarizer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/codebase-summarizer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill codebase-summarizer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/codebase-summarizer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills codebase-summarizer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/codebase-summarizer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill codebase-summarizer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path foundation/codebase-summarizer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/codebase-summarizer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill codebase-summarizer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- onboard a new developer onto an unfamiliar repo
- locate entry points and routes in a large codebase
- explain how a request moves through the layers
- collect how-to steps for common edits in one file
- draw an architecture diagram for the docs

## Example prompts
- Document the codebase and create ARCHITECTURE.md
- Explain the architecture and map the modules
- Write onboarding docs: entry points, layers, where to make changes

# Codebase Summarizer

Generate comprehensive architecture documentation from repository analysis.

## Core Workflow

1. **Scan structure**: Recursively analyze folder tree and file organization
2. **Identify patterns**: Detect framework, architecture style, key directories
3. **Map entry points**: Find main files, routes, APIs, CLI commands
4. **Trace data flow**: Follow requests through layers (controllers → services → models)
5. **Document modules**: Explain purpose and responsibilities of each directory
6. **Create navigation**: Build "how to" guides for common tasks
7. **Generate diagrams**: Add Mermaid diagrams for visual architecture
