## What it does

Reach for it when you are reviewing a PR for vulnerabilities, auditing login and permission code, hunting for committed secrets, or scanning dependencies. The review follows the OWASP Top 10 (2021 edition) with separate checks for Python/FastAPI and React codebases.

Inside are checklists per category: broken access control, cryptographic failures, injection, insecure design, security misconfiguration. Each one ships with bad-and-good code pairs — parameterized queries instead of string interpolation, bcrypt instead of MD5, explicit CORS origins instead of `*`. Findings land in `security-review.md` with severity, a `file:line` reference, a description and a recommendation.

The skill targets Python 3.12+, FastAPI, React and TypeScript. Deployment security and incident handling are out of scope; the description points to `docker-best-practices` and `incident-response` for those. On a different stack you will be translating the examples yourself.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hieutrtr/ai1-skills --skill code-review-security -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/code-review-security/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hieutrtr/ai1-skills --skill code-review-security -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hieutrtr/ai1-skills --skill code-review-security -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install hieutrtr/ai1-skills code-review-security
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hieutrtr/ai1-skills --skill code-review-security -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/hieutrtr/ai1-skills --path skills/code-review-security
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hieutrtr/ai1-skills --skill code-review-security -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/hieutrtr/ai1-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/code-review-security/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- review a pull request for vulnerabilities before merge
- catch a missing authorization check on an endpoint
- find a hardcoded secret or API key in the diff
- confirm user input passes through Pydantic schemas
- produce a findings report with severity levels

## Example prompts
- review this PR for OWASP Top 10 issues
- audit the authentication code in `auth/router.py`
- check the diff for committed secrets and weak password hashing

# Code Review Security

## When to Use

Activate this skill when:
- Reviewing pull requests for security vulnerabilities
- Auditing authentication or authorization code changes
- Reviewing code that handles user input, file uploads, or external data
- Checking for OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities in new features
- Validating that secrets are not committed to the repository
- Scanning dependencies for known vulnerabilities
- Reviewing API endpoints that expose sensitive data

**Output:** Write findings to `security-review.md` with severity, file:line, description, and recommendations.

Do NOT use this skill for:
- Deployment infrastructure security (use `docker-best-practices`)
- Incident response procedures (use `incident-response`)
- General code quality review without security focus (use `pre-merge-checklist`)
- Writing implementation code (use `python-backend-expert` or `react-frontend-expert`)

## Instructions

### OWASP Top 10 Checklist

Review every PR against the OWASP Top 10 (2021 edition). Each category below includes specific checks for Python/FastAPI and React codebases.

---

#### A01: Broken Access Control

**What to look for:**
- Missing authorization checks on endpoints
- Direct object reference without ownership verification
- Endpoints that expose data without role-based filtering
- Missing `Depends()` for auth on new routes

**Python/FastAPI checks:**
```python
# BAD: No authorization check -- any authenticated user can access any user
@router.get("/users/{user_id}")
async def get_user(user_id: int, db: Session = Depends(get_db)):
    return await user_repo.get(user_id)
# GOOD: Verify the requesting user owns the resource or is admin
@router.get("/users/{user_id}")
async def get_user(
    user_id: int,
    current_user: User = Depends(get_current_user),
    db: Session = Depends(get_db),
):
````
