## What it does

The skill targets duplicate purpose, not duplicate text. An AI does not copy-paste, it reimplements: the same helper appears twice under two names. Before writing any new function the agent checks `CODE_INDEX.md`, searches the codebase for similar behavior, and extends what exists when something fits. After the code lands, the index gets updated. `/audit-duplicates` catches overlap later.

The index sits in the project root and is grouped by capability rather than file path: Date/Time, Validation, API Clients, Error Handling, React hooks and components. Each table row carries the function name, file and line, what it does, and its parameters. The skill also defines a file header format for TypeScript and Python plus a one-line summary for every function.

You do not invoke it by hand — the description sets `user-invocable: false`, so it loads as a rule and fires on its own. It only pays off if you update the index right after writing code. Skip that and the tables drift, which means the agent trusts stale entries.
