## What it does

The skill provides JWT and API key verification via `crypto.subtle`, CORS configuration with origin whitelists, Zod validation schemas, and a security headers bundle (CSP, HSTS, `X-Frame-Options`). Inside: rate limiting middleware by IP, secure worker templates, and a table of ten common vulnerabilities with symptoms. All secrets go in `wrangler secret`, never in code.

Examples use `crypto.subtle` for token signing, SHA-256 hashing for keys before storing in KV, and Zod schemas with length and type constraints. No FFmpeg, Python or external APIs — only standard Workers API and npm packages (`zod`). If secrets leak into the repository, rotate them; deleting from history isn't enough.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-workers-security -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-workers-security -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-workers-security -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install secondsky/claude-skills cloudflare-workers-security
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-workers-security -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills --path plugins/cloudflare-workers/skills/cloudflare-workers-security
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-workers-security -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/cloudflare-workers/skills/cloudflare-workers-security/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- verify JWT or API key on every request
- configure CORS for specific domains without `*`
- block an IP after N requests per minute
- validate JSON body with Zod schema before writing to D1
- add CSP, HSTS and `X-Content-Type-Options` in one function

## Example prompts
- Add JWT verification from `Authorization` header before processing POST `/api/orders`
- Allow CORS only for `app.mysite.com` and `admin.mysite.com`
- Limit `/api/upload` to five requests per minute per IP

# Cloudflare Workers Security

Comprehensive security patterns for protecting Workers and APIs.

## Quick Security Checklist

```typescript
// 1. Validate all input
const validated = schema.parse(await request.json());
// 2. Authenticate requests
const user = await verifyToken(request.headers.get('Authorization'));
if (!user) return new Response('Unauthorized', { status: 401 });
// 3. Rate limit
const limited = await rateLimiter.check(clientIP);
if (!limited.allowed) return new Response('Too Many Requests', { status: 429 });
// 4. Add security headers
response.headers.set('X-Content-Type-Options', 'nosniff');
response.headers.set('X-Frame-Options', 'DENY');
// 5. Use HTTPS-only cookies
headers.set('Set-Cookie', 'session=xxx; Secure; HttpOnly; SameSite=Strict');
```

## Critical Rules

1. **Never trust client input** - Validate and sanitize everything
2. **Use secure secrets** - Store in Wrangler secrets, never in code
3. **Implement rate limiting** - Protect against abuse
4. **Set security headers** - Prevent common attacks
5. **Use CORS properly** - Don't use `*` in production

## Top 10 Security Errors

| Vulnerability | Symptom | Prevention |
|---------------|---------|------------|
| Missing auth | Unauthorized access | Verify tokens on every request |
| SQL injection | Data breach | Use parameterized queries with D1 |
| XSS | Script injection | Sanitize output, set CSP |
| CORS misconfiguration | Blocked requests or open access | Configure specific origins |
| Secrets in code | Exposed credentials | Use `wrangler secret` |
| Missing rate limits | DoS vulnerability | Implement per-IP limits |
| Weak tokens | Session hijacking | Use crypto.subtle for signing |
| Missing HTTPS | Data interception | Enforce HTTPS redirects |
| Insecure headers | Clickjacking, MIME attacks | Set security headers |
| Excessive permissions | Blast radius | Principle of least privilege |

## Authentication Patterns

### JWT Verification

```typescript
async function verifyJWT(token: string, secret: string): Promise<{ valid: boolean; payload?: unknown }> {
  try {
    const [headerB64, payloadB64, signatureB64] = token.split('.');
    // Verify signature
    const key = await crypto.subtle.importKey(
      'raw',
      new TextEncoder().encode(secret),
      { name: 'HMAC', hash: 'SHA-256' },
      false,
      ['verify']
    );
