## What it does

The skill equips the agent with guidelines and templates for Cloudflare D1. It enforces prepared statements using `.bind()` to stop SQL injection. Timestamps require `INTEGER`. SQLite types receive strict validation, keeping columns as `TEXT` instead of `VARCHAR`.

It guides database bindings in `wrangler.jsonc` and structures migrations using the Wrangler CLI. It also handles atomic operations via `env.DB.batch()`, running multiple statements inside a single transaction. The free tier caps execution at 50 queries per invocation, so exceeding it immediately triggers HTTP 429 errors.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-d1 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cloudflare-d1/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-d1 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-d1 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install secondsky/claude-skills cloudflare-d1
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-d1 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills --path plugins/cloudflare-d1/skills/cloudflare-d1
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill cloudflare-d1 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- Scaffold database migrations using Wrangler commands
- Run multiple queries inside a single transaction using `batch()`
- Resolve `D1_ERROR` and statement size bottlenecks
- Configure D1 database bindings inside `wrangler.jsonc`

## Example prompts
- Create a D1 schema migration for user accounts with indexed fields
- Show how to query D1 using `prepare()` and `.bind()` inside Hono
- Set up batch inserts inside a single transaction using `env.DB.batch()`

## What Is D1?

Cloudflare D1 is **serverless SQLite** on the edge:
- SQL database without servers
- Global distribution
- Zero cold starts
- Standard SQLite syntax
- Read replication for global performance

---

## 🆕 New in 2025

D1 received major updates throughout 2025:

### Performance (January 2025)
- **40-60% latency reduction** globally (P50 query times)
- Optimized SQLite engine for edge execution
- Reduced cold start impact for databases <100 MB

### Reliability (September 2025)
- **Automatic query retries**: Read queries retry up to 2x on transient failures
- Transparent to application code (logged in `wrangler tail`)

### Scalability (April 2025)
- **Read Replication (Public Beta)**: Deploy read replicas globally
- Up to 2x read throughput for read-heavy workloads
- Sessions API for read-write separation

### Compliance (November 2025)
- **Data Localization**: Specify EU/US jurisdiction for GDPR/data sovereignty
- Configure via `--jurisdiction` flag or wrangler.jsonc

### ⚠️ Breaking Change (February 10, 2025)
- **Free tier hard limits enforced**: 10 DBs, 500 MB each, 50 queries/invocation
- Exceeding limits = 429 errors (previously warnings only)
- **Action**: Review usage with `wrangler d1 list` and upgrade if needed

**Full details**: Load `references/2025-features.md`

## Quick Start (5 Minutes)

### 1. Create Database

```bash
bunx wrangler d1 create my-database
```

Save the `database_id` from output!

### 2. Configure Binding
