## What it does

The skill covers hooking the assistant-ui runtime up to AssistantCloud, a hosted service that stores threads and messages, titles new threads and records user feedback. A single `AssistantCloud` client serves `useChatRuntime` from `@assistant-ui/ai-sdk`, `AISDKThreads({ cloud })` for `AuiConfig` hosts, and `useLangGraphRuntime` from `@assistant-ui/react-langgraph`.

Three auth modes are documented: `authToken` with a JWT, `apiKey` plus `userId` and `workspaceId` for server-side use only, and `anonymous` for demos. There are separate references for Clerk, Auth0, Supabase and Firebase, plus a backend token endpoint. The client surface is `cloud.threads`, `cloud.files`, `cloud.runs` and `cloud.telemetry`, and a custom `ThreadHistoryAdapter` can sit on top of `CloudMessagePersistence`.

Install the packages first: `npm install @assistant-ui/react @assistant-ui/ai-sdk`. `assistant-cloud` comes in as a dependency of `@assistant-ui/react` and re-exports `AssistantCloud` for browser code, while server-side code imports it from `assistant-cloud` directly. `anonymous` is fine for a demo, but production needs a token. Threads that never persist, 401s from the cloud API and feedback buttons that save nothing are the cases this skill is meant for.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add assistant-ui/skills --skill cloud -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cloud/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cloud/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add assistant-ui/skills --skill cloud -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cloud/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add assistant-ui/skills --skill cloud -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cloud/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install assistant-ui/skills cloud
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cloud/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add assistant-ui/skills --skill cloud -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/assistant-ui/skills --path assistant-ui/skills/cloud
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cloud/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add assistant-ui/skills --skill cloud -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/assistant-ui/skills/tree/HEAD/assistant-ui/skills/cloud/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- keep thread history across sessions
- add auth through Clerk, Auth0, Supabase or Firebase
- let users upload files into the chat
- store message feedback from the UI
- debug 401s from the cloud API and feedback that does not save

## Example prompts
- Wire AssistantCloud into useChatRuntime so threads persist across sessions
- Set up Clerk auth with a backend token endpoint
- Add file uploads through cloud.files to my assistant-ui chat

description: "Adds AssistantCloud backed persistence, authorization, and telemetry to assistant-ui apps. Use when wiring cross-session thread and message history, multi-device chat, message feedback, file uploads, or auth: passing `cloud` to `useChatRuntime` from `@assistant-ui/ai-sdk`, `AISDKThreads({ cloud })` for `AuiConfig` hosts, or `cloud` on `useLangGraphRuntime`. Covers constructing `AssistantCloud` with `authToken` (JWT), `apiKey` plus `userId`/`workspaceId` (server-side only), or `anonymous`; Clerk, Auth0, Supabase, and Firebase integrations and a backend token endpoint; the `cloud.threads`, `cloud.files`, `cloud.runs`, and `cloud.telemetry` client surface; and a custom `ThreadHistoryAdapter` on `CloudMessagePersistence`. Route here for threads that do not persist, 401s against the cloud API, or feedback buttons that do not save. For the `<ThreadList />` sidebar UI use thread-list; for the general adapter contracts use runtime."

# assistant-ui Cloud

**Always consult [assistant-ui.com/llms.txt](https://www.assistant-ui.com/llms.txt) for the latest API.**

Assistant Cloud is a hosted service that adds thread persistence, message history, auto-generated titles, message feedback, and file uploads to any React chat UI. One `AssistantCloud` client backs the assistant-ui runtime, `AuiConfig` thread integration, and LangGraph Cloud.
