# cloud-provisioning

Creates and runs Elastic Cloud Serverless projects, traffic filters and Hosted deployments through the elastic CLI. Handy when you need a project up, or access to it locked down, without leaving the agent.

## What it does

The skill covers three areas: Serverless projects (Elasticsearch, Observability, Security), traffic filters with IP and AWS PrivateLink, and the lifecycle of Hosted deployments. It infers the project type from the conversation and confirms it with you rather than quietly defaulting to `elasticsearch`. Elasticsearch takes `optimized_for` (`general_purpose` by default), Observability takes `product_tier`, Security takes tiers per product line (`security`, `cloud`, `endpoint`).

It runs on the `elastic` CLI, version 0.2 or newer, with `cloud serverless` and `cloud hosted` support. You also need network access to `api.elastic-cloud.com` and a configured Cloud context — the key lives in the OS keychain, not in the chat. When the context is missing, the skill tells you to add an Organization-level key and re-run. Secrets never get echoed into the conversation, and that is worth checking before the first run, because pasting a key into the prompt is an easy habit to fall into.

A project's region is set once and stays put, and deletion cannot be undone. So the skill presents the configuration and waits for explicit confirmation before creating, deleting or resetting credentials. The `admin` password exists only to mint a scoped Elasticsearch key; don't keep using it. New projects sit in `initializing` until they reach `initialized`. Keep the Cloud context and the project's Elasticsearch API key apart: one authorizes control-plane calls, the other authorizes data-plane work.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill cloud-provisioning -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill provisioning -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/provisioning/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/provisioning/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill provisioning -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/provisioning/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill provisioning -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/provisioning/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install elastic/agent-skills provisioning
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/provisioning/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill provisioning -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/elastic/agent-skills --path skills/cloud/provisioning
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/provisioning/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elastic/agent-skills --skill provisioning -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/elastic/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cloud/provisioning/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- spin up an Elastic Cloud Serverless project from the terminal
- pick between the elasticsearch, observability and security project types
- restrict project access by IP or through AWS PrivateLink
- mint a scoped Elasticsearch key instead of reusing admin credentials
- wait for a project to finish initializing and connect to it

## Example prompts
- Create an observability serverless project in gcp-us-central1 and show me the config before you run it
- List the regions where project creation is enabled
- Set up an IP traffic filter for this project

# Cloud Provisioning

Provision and run Elastic Cloud infrastructure through the Cloud API: **Serverless projects** (create and day-2
operations), **traffic filters** (network security for those projects), and **Elastic Cloud Hosted deployments**. For
configuring Cloud authentication and managing organization access, use the **cloud-onboarding** skill.

## Environment Configuration

This skill operates the Elastic Cloud control plane through the `elastic` CLI. If the
[`elastic` CLI](https://github.com/elastic/cli#configuration) is not installed, tell the user what it is needed for. Do
not guess credentials, bypass the CLI to call the HTTP API directly, or attempt other workarounds.

Control-plane operations authenticate against the Elastic Cloud API (organization scope), not a single stack deployment.
The `elastic` CLI reads this from its active context, which stores an Elastic Cloud API key in the OS keychain. If a
control-plane call fails with an authentication error, the context is missing or lacks a Cloud API key — instruct the
