## What it does

This skill searches Cline history using time ranges, prompt text, status, model, provider, source, mode, working directory, and session ID. It can print the complete prompt, show a conversation transcript, cap the number of messages, select content types, or copy matching sessions to an export directory.

The skill includes `scripts/search_sessions.py`. Resolve that path from the skill directory rather than the current working directory. Session metadata and message files are normally under `~/.cline/data/sessions/`; older records may also be kept in the SQLite database `sessions.db`. Custom locations use `--sessions-dir` and `--db-path`, while `--no-db` skips the database. The local session files must be accessible for searches to return results.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-history -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-search -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cline-session-search/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install cline/skills cline-session-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-search -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/cline/skills --path skills/cline-session-search
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add cline/skills --skill cline-session-search -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/cline/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cline-session-search/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find a session from part of its prompt
- filter failed or completed sessions
- inspect a full conversation transcript
- export sessions from a time range
- match sessions by model and workspace

## Example prompts
- Find my Cline session from the last hour that mentions `chatgpt` and show the full prompt.
- Print the complete transcript for session `1781991507587_pozk0`, limited to text and tool calls.
- Export sessions from the last day to `~/tmp/exported-sessions`.

description: Search and browse Cline session history. Use when the user asks to find, list, inspect, or export Cline sessions by time period, prompt content, status, model, provider, source, mode, workspace, or other criteria. Also use when the user wants to read a session transcript or export sessions to a directory. Trigger phrases include "find my session", "search my session history", "show me past sessions", "what was that session where", "find the session that started with", and any mention of past Cline conversations.

# Cline Session History

Search and browse Cline session history stored on the local machine. Sessions live in `~/.cline/data/sessions/` as individual JSON metadata files and conversation transcript (`.messages.json`) files. Older sessions may also be in a `sessions.db` SQLite database.

## When to Use This Skill

- "Find my session from the last hour about..."
- "Find my session that started with this prompt..."
- "Find the session where I asked about..."
- "Show me sessions that used model X"
- "What sessions failed yesterday?"
- "Show me the transcript for session <id>"
- "Export sessions from last week to a folder"
- "What was that session where..."
- Any request involving past Cline conversation history

## How to Use

The search script lives alongside this file at `scripts/search_sessions.py`, relative to the skill's own directory. Resolve it against the directory that contains this `SKILL.md` — **not** the current working directory — so it works regardless of where the command is run from.

**Script path:** `scripts/search_sessions.py` (relative to this skill's directory)

The examples below use `scripts/search_sessions.py`; prefix it with the skill directory's absolute path when running from elsewhere.

All filters are optional and combine with AND logic.

### Quick Examples

```sh
# Sessions from the last 10 minutes
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --since 10m
# Sessions between two dates with "chatgpt" in the prompt
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --since 2026-06-01 --until 2026-06-21 --prompt chatgpt
# Find a session by its starting prompt (quoted substring match)
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --since 1d --prompt "find some code that should be improved" --full-prompt
# Non-interactive sessions that failed
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --no-interactive --status failed
# VS Code extension sessions using Claude models, full prompts
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --source vscode --model "claude" --full-prompt
# Full transcript of a specific session
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --session-id 1781991507587_pozk0 --transcript
# Export matching sessions to a directory
python3 scripts/search_sessions.py --since 1d --export ~/tmp/exported-sessions
```

### Time Filters

Both `--since` and `--until` accept:

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the f62224694397da00 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
